Job description

Business Insider is hiring a Staff Product Manager to join our Product Team.
Business Insider is for people who are driven, optimistic and always looking forward. Our mission is to inspire action through thought-provoking stories. We tell our audience what they want and need to know to improve their lives and the world with storytelling that is accessible, smart, sometimes unexpected, and always helpful. Our team members embody and uphold Business Insider's three core values: we are all one team, we are effective, and we get better every day.
Our Product Team exists to maximize the impact of our journalism by building products that move the company from a reach-based model toward deeper engagement and loyalty. We are a collaborative, inclusive, and impact-driven group that values outcomes over output, clear ownership, and thoughtful execution. Working in close partnership with engineering and technology, we bring together stakeholders across the company to prioritize and deliver meaningful work-creating essential, high-quality experiences that foster direct relationships with our audience and support long-term growth.
The Role
As Staff Product Manager, Monetization, you will lead the strategic direction for Business Insider's monetized product ecosystem across subscriptions, advertising, and hybrid revenue models. You will own a core product domain with deep expertise, balancing tactical execution with long-term strategic vision to ensure monetization strengthens audience value, trust, and business growth.
You will partner closely with engineering, design, analytics, subscriptions, revenue, editorial, marketing, and business development to define the roadmap, shape investment priorities, and drive high-impact initiatives across the monetization portfolio. You will also play a key role in improving product development processes, mentoring product managers, and helping the broader organization make better decisions through clear strategy, strong judgment, and effective communication.
This role reports to the VP, Product, and is based in our New York City HQ with a periodic in-office presence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead product strategy and execution across Business Insider's monetization portfolio, with a strong emphasis on subscription growth, engagement, retention, and renewals.
  • Own the long-term vision, roadmap, and success metrics for a core monetization domain, ensuring product investments align with company goals and customer needs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the subscriber experience across the lifecycle, using research, experimentation, and data to inform priorities and validate impact.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to launch and iterate on products that drive conversion, reduce churn, deepen loyalty, and create sustainable revenue growth.
  • Drive complex, cross-functional initiatives that require strong judgment, stakeholder alignment, and clear communication across teams and leadership.
  • Improve product development processes and ways of working to increase clarity, speed, and effectiveness.
  • Mentor Product Managers and serve as a strategic thought partner to leadership on monetization opportunities, tradeoffs, and priorities.
The Ideal Candidate Has
  • Significant product management experience, including ownership of complex product areas and initiatives with measurable business impact.
  • Deep experience in subscription and monetization products, including areas such as acquisition, paywalls, onboarding, pricing, retention, churn, and renewals.
  • A strong track record of using data, experimentation, and customer insight to shape product strategy and drive growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic and executional levels, connecting near-term delivery to long-term product and business vision.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions across a broad group of partners.
  • Experience improving team processes, mentoring PMs, and helping raise the quality of product thinking across an organization.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Figma, Looker, and Google Analytics.
  • A passion for building audience-centered products and sustainable consumer revenue models.

Salary & Benefits:
  • Base salary: $150,000 - $160,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
  • Additional bonus
  • Flexible PTO, 10 company holidays, and 16 weeks of parental leave
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans
  • Matched and vested 401k plan
  • Access to resources for financial planning guidance, family planning services, mental health reach out and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)
  • Additional benefits include commuter benefits, phone reimbursement, gym membership discounts, and more
