Metallurgist
The Metallurgist assists in production and quality processes with emphasis in meeting customer deadlines, quality standards, safety improvements, scrap reduction, non-conformities, fewer returns and productivity improvements. Confers with management, engineering and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities and other considerations to facilitate production processes. This position will ultimately gain a more thorough understanding of the company's material and processes that could provide expansion into new markets. Project work including but not limited to: Process development, Equipment evaluation, reduction of micro-porosity, selection of new alloys, etc.
  • Develop practices to improve safety, quality, efficiency, yield, productivity, and costs
  • Develop and optimize process and product development
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential
  • Work closely with operations and provide training to operating personnel
  • Manage Laboratory technicians in Iron and Sand labs.
  • Manage metallurgical supply inventories and coordinate procurement process.
  • Forecast scrap procurement demand and mix based upon Foundry schedule and communicate with purchasing.
  • Write certifications for customer requirements.

Provide metallurgical assistance to management, quality, engineering, foundry teams, and special projects
Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field of work
  • PhD desired

Required Experience:
  • 4+ years progressive work related experience with demonstrated proficiency in the discipline/technology/process related to the position including experience as a team member on project teams in a cross functional environment
  • Iron foundry experience
  • Heat treatment experience
  • Machine shop experience
