Job Description

Join Atlas Technical Consultants' Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician in Lubbock supporting the West Texas area. This technician will collect samples, perform soil densities, concrete testing in the field in accordance with TxDOT and ASTM standards, with room to grow into field certifications. Success looks like accurate, well-documented field testing and steady progress toward TxAPA/ACI certifications.

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform field testing and inspection for soils, aggregates, HMA, and concrete placement per specifications.

  • Field density, sampling, and inspection testing

  • Daily QC/QA testing

  • Support roadway personnel with placement testing

  • Operate and maintain field equipment (density gauge, slump cone, air meter)

  • Document field activities per requirements

  • Coordinate with contractors and client staff; escalate issues to the Field Manager

  • Follow safety policies

  • Train toward other field certifications

Youll thrive here if you have

  • 1+ years of construction inspection or materials testing experience preferred but not required.

  • Ability to read and comprehend plans, specifications, and test procedures.

  • Working knowledge of soils, aggregates, concrete and HMA.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Willingness to obtain TxAPA Level 1B, SB102 and ACI Field Grade (any combination) within a defined timeframe.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for field documentation and reporting.

  • Certifications not required at hire; will train toward TxAPA Level 1B, SB102 and ACI Field Grade (any combination) on the job.

  • Knowledge of TxDOT, ASTM and AASHTO field testing procedures relating to soils, aggregates, HMA, and concrete.

  • Proficiency in preparing and documenting field test results in accordance with TxDOT standards and project requirements.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time between active project sites within the West Texas area.

  • Willingness to workday or night shifts, as well as "off hours" when needed.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions on active construction sites.

  • Willing to work toward field certifications; no lab experience required.
