Music Teacher
Start Date: August 11, 2026
Compensation: $55,000 - $88,000 (more details below)
Contact: jobs@hebrewpublic.org
About Hebrew Public
Hebrew Public is a small and growing network of schools operated by Hebrew Public: Charter Schools for Global Citizens. Hebrew Public is a secular organization that welcomes candidates of all backgrounds into a supportive and inclusive community.
Across the network, Hebrew Public schools serve children from all backgrounds and help students become global citizens who are strong problem solvers, aware communicators, and lifelong learners committed to making a positive difference in the world around them. Our schools are models of racial and economic integration, academic excellence, and world language learning.
Why PHP?
As part of Hebrew Public, Philadelphia Hebrew Public teachers and staff have the opportunity to bring that mission to life with students from over 37 zip codes across Philadelphia, primarily Black and Brown students whose brilliance, curiosity, and potential drive our work every day.
PHP is rooted in the belief that all students deserve rigorous academics, strong relationships, and access to a globally minded education that expands what they see as possible for themselves. For educators who want their work to matter beyond the classroom walls, PHP offers a place to help close opportunity gaps while nurturing students academically, socially, and culturally.
You don't need to speak Hebrew to apply, and we strongly encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups to join our community.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a creative, skilled, and student-centered Music Teacher to build students' confidence, musical knowledge, and joy through engaging music instruction. The Music Teacher will provide developmentally appropriate instruction to students across multiple grade levels and create opportunities for students to explore music through singing, movement, rhythm, instruments, composition, and performance.
The ideal candidate believes every child can develop as a musician and understands how music can deepen students' creativity, cultural awareness, collaboration, and sense of belonging. This teacher will build an inclusive music program that celebrates diverse musical traditions, connects students to cultures and communities around the world, and gives students meaningful opportunities to share their talents.
What you'll do

  • Teach foundational music skills through singing, movement, instruments, listening, composition, and performance.
  • Introduce students to music from diverse cultures, traditions, genres, and historical periods.
  • Differentiate instruction so students with varied learning needs and musical experience can participate and grow.
  • Build a joyful, inclusive classroom with clear routines, high expectations, and safe use of instruments and equipment.
  • Assess student progress, provide meaningful feedback, and adjust instruction based on student needs.
  • Plan performances, showcases, and school-wide events that celebrate student learning and build community.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and families to support student success and strengthen music's role within the PHP community.
  • Manage instruments, supplies, and classroom resources responsibly.
  • Participate in professional development, coaching, collaborative planning, and feedback cycles.
  • Maintain strong organizational systems and meet school-wide expectations and deadlines.

Professional Responsibilities
  • Model Hebrew Public's OLAM values: outstanding problem solving, continuous learning, making a difference, and intentional communication
  • Participate in intellectual preparation, coaching cycles, classroom observations, and feedback conversations
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and actively seek feedback to improve practice

Who you are
  • Deep belief in the limitless potential of all students and commitment to helping them thrive as global citizens
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required
  • Pennsylvania teaching certification in Music, or active progress toward appropriate certification
  • Experience teaching music to elementary and/or middle school students strongly preferred
  • Experience teaching vocal music, instrumental music, composition, or performance
  • Ability to play and teach one or more instruments; piano or keyboard proficiency is preferred
  • Commitment to designing inclusive instruction that reflects diverse cultures, musical traditions, and student identities
  • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to establish clear routines, high expectations, and a joyful classroom culture
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for students with varying musical experience, language backgrounds, and learning needs
  • Experience working in urban school communities and a commitment to building strong relationships with students, families, and staff is preferred
  • Strong organizational, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Excitement about developing student performances and contributing to school-wide events and traditions
