Job description

Rohrer Bus, based in Duncannon, PA, has delivered school and commercial passenger transportation solutions for over a century. The School Van Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and professional transportation of students to and from school.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Transport students safely and courteously in accordance with all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and local policies.
  • Route Navigation: Follow assigned routes and schedules to pick up and drop off students at designated stops.
  • Vehicle Safety Inspections: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety checks of the vehicle, including lights, brakes, tires, and emergency exits.
  • Passenger Management: Maintain a safe, orderly environment inside the vehicle. Enforce passenger safety rules and report behavioral issues to school administrators in writing per district policy.
  • Loading & Unloading: Assist students in boarding and exiting the vehicle safely, including securing wheelchairs or other mobility devices as required.
  • Incident Reporting: Immediately report any delays, mechanical defects, or accidents/incidents to dispatch and management.
  • Attend all required safety and training meetings. Conduct Emergency Evacuation Drills per company and district policies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • License: Valid driver's license with a minimum of 3 years of satisfactory driving history.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Medical: Ability to pass initial and routine physical examinations and drug/alcohol screening programs.
  • Comfortable using or learning fleet and workforce technology systems such as Samsara (GPS/vehicle tracking) and Dayforce (scheduling/HR).

REQUIRED EXPECTATIONS
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision and manage time effectively across assigned routes.
  • Cooperate and communicate professionally and respectfully with school personnel, parents, and students.
  • Dress in a professional and appropriate manner for a business environment.
  • Keep vehicle organized and clean, including sweeping, dusting, and cleaning windows.
  • Must be able to withstand varying indoor/outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures and adverse weather.
  • Perform all job functions in the safest manner, adhering to Rohrer Bus policies and all applicable federal and state laws.
  • Other specialized functions as required by contract.
