Job description

The Business Intelligence Developer (BID) functions as the expert for clinical informatics, Electronic Health Record (EPIC) reports and data visualization tools.  The BID has expert knowledge on the EHR applications and applies superior ability to work with reporting and data analytics customers to understand, design and document complex reporting and analytics needs and are able to coordinate all issues that arise during the reporting and data analytics assignments and projects. The business intelligence developer will analyze problems often without precedent and/or existing structure within UCSF Health and Benioff Children's Hospitals, and address complex problems with an organization-wide scope. The BID will perform data analysis using independent judgment and technical expertise.  This position will support the delivery of outstanding patient care, operational performance, quality, and improvement efforts to help streamline processes and decision making with a focus on EHR reporting, data analysis and visualization for UCSF Health, Benioff Children's Hospitals and our affiliates.  As part of the data analysis and reporting efforts, this position will focus on providing expertise across different data systems (All Epic EHR reporting tools, SQL, Tableau, etc.).  This position also will be part of the clinical systems application teams to manage the analysis of data, evaluation of data, getting feedback from key stakeholders and using data to support the performance of our hospitals, clinics, staff, programs, and operations.

Attention to detail and strong communication are critical skills for this position. Works to help other users learn and adopt the development standards and enjoys helping users enhance their data visualization and reporting skills. Requires strong EHR application knowledge and technical skills, and expert analytical abilities in the areas of data extraction, report generation, and information visualization, including but not limited to all EHR Epic reporting tools, reporting workbench, radar, SlicerDicer, SQL server and tableau. The BID might also develop user training aids and train end users in the use of reports & reporting functions & tools.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.

  • 5 - 7 years' related experience.

  • Certifications:

    • Clarity Data Model

  • High proficiency with EHR reporting tools, SQL, as well as in the use of business intelligence tools such as SAP universe, web intelligence and crystal reports. Ability to perform complex data analysis with large volumes of data.

  • Prior experience developing self-service analytic tools utilizing slicerdicer, tableau desktop and/or tableau server

  • Advanced organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.

  • Advanced interpersonal communications skills, to convey highly technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical users in a clear and concise manner, to provide technical support, and to develop and deliver training materials as needed.

  • Ability to apply advanced problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues, quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.

  • Advanced analytical skills and expertise in documentation and reporting, with the ability to apply metrics, design and run queries, collect and analyze performance data, and produce sophisticated reports and analyses for management use.
