Manager Epic Business Intelligence Developer Jobs

The Business Intelligence Developer (BID) functions as the expert for clinical informatics, Electronic Health Record (EPIC) reports and data visualization tools.  The BID has expert knowledge on the EHR applications and applies superior ability to work with reporting and data analytics customers to understand, design and document complex reporting and analytics needs and are able to coordinate all issues that arise during the reporting and data analytics assignments and projects. The business intelligence developer will analyze problems often without precedent and/or existing structure within UCSF Health and Benioff Children's Hospitals, and address complex problems with an organization-wide scope. The BID will perform data analysis using independent judgment and technical expertise.  This position will support the delivery of outstanding patient care, operational performance, quality, and improvement efforts to help streamline processes and decision making with a focus on EHR reporting, data analysis and visualization for UCSF Health, Benioff Children's Hospitals and our affiliates.  As part of the data analysis and reporting efforts, this position will focus on providing expertise across different data systems (All Epic EHR reporting tools, SQL, Tableau, etc.).  This position also will be part of the clinical systems application teams to manage the analysis of data, evaluation of data, getting feedback from key stakeholders and using data to support the performance of our hospitals, clinics, staff, programs, and operations.

Attention to detail and strong communication are critical skills for this position. Works to help other users learn and adopt the development standards and enjoys helping users enhance their data visualization and reporting skills. Requires strong EHR application knowledge and technical skills, and expert analytical abilities in the areas of data extraction, report generation, and information visualization, including but not limited to all EHR Epic reporting tools, reporting workbench, radar, SlicerDicer, SQL server and tableau. The BID might also develop user training aids and train end users in the use of reports & reporting functions & tools.

The UCSF IT EIA (Enterprise Information Architecture) Health Finance department is dedicated to developing and managing data-driven technology solutions that optimize financial operations and enhance decision-making within UCSFs healthcare ecosystem. By leveraging enterprise information architecture, the department ensures the integration and accessibility of financial data to support UCSFs academic, clinical, and research missions. Specializing in financial data systems, analytics, and reporting, the EIA Health Finance team provides tools and insights that empower UCSFs leadership, finance teams, and healthcare administrators to make informed decisions. From revenue cycle management and budgeting to cost analysis and forecasting, the department delivers scalable solutions that enable efficient financial planning and resource allocation across UCSFs healthcare operations. Collaboration is at the core of the departments approach, working closely with finance teams, IT stakeholders, and institutional leaders to design systems that align with UCSFs strategic goals. By integrating financial systems with clinical and operational data, the department ensures a holistic view of UCSFs financial health, enabling seamless workflows and strategic decision-making. The department prioritizes compliance, data security, and accuracy, ensuring that financial systems meet regulatory standards and institutional policies while safeguarding sensitive information. Through innovative technologies and continuous system enhancements, the team supports UCSFs efforts to modernize financial processes and adapt to changing healthcare demands. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.

• 5 - 7 years' related experience.

• Certifications:

  • Clarity Data Model

• High proficiency with EHR reporting tools, SQL, as well as in the use of business intelligence tools such as SAP universe, web intelligence and crystal reports. Ability to perform complex data analysis with large volumes of data.

• Prior experience developing self-service analytic tools utilizing slicerdicer, tableau desktop and/or tableau server

• Advanced organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.

• Advanced interpersonal communications skills, to convey highly technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical users in a clear and concise manner, to provide technical support, and to develop and deliver training materials as needed.

• Ability to apply advanced problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues, quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.

• Advanced analytical skills and expertise in documentation and reporting, with the ability to apply metrics, design and run queries, collect and analyze performance data, and produce sophisticated reports and analyses for management use.

• Advanced ability to serve as a technical leader and information resource, and to work collaboratively with senior staff and management across departments, providing advice, counsel, and analysis on issues of policy, functionality, system efficiency, upgrades, business analytics, and industry advances and trends.

• May be responsible for leading/mentoring other developers within the team

• Expertise on EHR application(s) and a good working knowledge of how the application(s) collect and store data.

• Expertise on epic clarity and caboodle data structures, with the ability to independently analyze new data models to support analytic and data needs of customers

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree or doctorate in computer science or related area.

• Having an in depth understanding of both the clinical and business workflows to achieve strategic outcomes for the implementation
