What are Manager Consultants?

Manager Consultants are professionals who provide expert advice to organizations to improve their efficiency, strategy, and operations. They typically work with senior management to identify organizational challenges, develop solutions, and implement changes that drive business growth. Manager Consultants may specialize in areas such as management, strategy, human resources, or operations. Their role often involves analyzing data, leading project teams, and facilitating change within an organization. They are employed by consulting firms or work independently across various industries.

What does a manager consultant do?

A manager consultant analyzes organizational problems and develops strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability. They often conduct research, facilitate change management, and provide recommendations to senior leadership, utilizing skills in project management and data analysis. Their work typically involves client interaction, report writing, and implementing solutions across various business functions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager Consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager Consultant, you need expertise in business strategy, project management, and analytical problem-solving, often supported by a bachelor's or master's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with analytics tools (such as Excel, Power BI), project management software (like MS Project or Asana), and, in some cases, certifications such as PMP or Lean Six Sigma are highly valuable. Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills help Manager Consultants excel in client-facing roles and team environments. These skills are critical to delivering actionable solutions, managing complex projects, and building strong client trust in competitive consulting engagements.

Is 30 too old to get into consulting?

Manager consultants often have diverse backgrounds, and starting a consulting career at age 30 is common. Success depends on relevant experience, skills, and certifications rather than age, and many firms value maturity and industry knowledge brought by experienced professionals.

Job description

About This Opportunity

AG Consulting Partners is continuously building our consultant pipeline for current and future client engagements. This posting is a pipeline opportunity and is not tied to a specific open role.

We're seeking experienced professionals with backgrounds in Change Management, Organizational Change Management (OCM), Change Strategy, Business Transformation, Digital Transformation, Communications Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Training & Enablement, Adoption & Readiness, Organizational Effectiveness, and related disciplines.

We offer W2 employment for consultants located in Washington State and Texas and also partner with professionals nationwide through 1099 and/or LLC engagements.

The job description below represents a blend of skills and responsibilities commonly requested by our clients across the technology, retail, public sector, and AI industries.

If your background aligns with the types of opportunities we frequently support, a member of our Talent Acquisition team may reach out regarding next steps in our interview process.

Please note: As part of our proactive talent pipeline strategy, we often engage with candidates before a specific client need exists. While we may not have an immediate opportunity that aligns with your background, qualified candidates may be considered for future engagements as they become available.

Work Location Flexibility

Work arrangements vary by client and may be remote, hybrid, or onsite. Consultants must be willing to support evolving client requirements, including onsite collaboration or return-to-office expectations when applicable. AG Consulting Partners will provide as much advance notice as possible regarding any changes to work location requirements.

As a Change Manager Consultant for AG Consulting Partners, a typical day might include the following:

  • Design and execute organizational change strategies to support business transformation, focusing on readiness planning, stakeholder alignment, and adoption enablement.
  • Lead organizational design assessments to identify gaps, impacts, and alignment needs, providing recommendations backed by data and industry frameworks.
  • Develop and deliver change impact assessments, communication strategies, and training enablement plans to ensure seamless transitions.
  • Partner cross-functionally with program managers, executives, and business leaders to drive consistent messaging and adoption across global teams.
  • Leverage metrics and analytics to track readiness, adoption, and change success, iterating plans based on quantitative insights.
  • Facilitate workshops and leadership forums to align organizational priorities, resolve resistance, and establish change champions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, using consulting experience to influence executive decision-making and program outcomes.

This job is for you if:

  • You like helping people and don’t need to take credit for success. You’re patient and calm under pressure. You’re motivated and thrive in ambiguity. You know how to influence others without authority.
  • You are great at holding people accountable and influencing decision-making.
  • You’re humble. You view every experience as an opportunity to learn something new.
  • You enjoy solving problems. You love taking on difficult challenges and finding creative solutions. You don’t get easily discouraged. If you don’t know the answer, you’ll dig until you find it.
  • You pay attention to the details. As far as you’re concerned, anything worth doing is worth doing right every time. You stay focused, and nothing falls through the cracks on your watch.
  • You think on your feet. You like learning new things, and you can learn quickly. When things change, you know how to roll with the punches.
  • You communicate clearly. You can explain almost anything to anyone, and you’re comfortable communicating in writing and meetings.

Requirements

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience leading organizational change management for enterprise-level initiatives
  • Deep expertise in change management methodologies (Prosci, CCMP, or similar)
  • Ability to translate technical concepts — LLMs, autonomous agents, RPA, and AI infrastructure — into business-friendly narratives
  • Strong proficiency in structured change management methodologies such as Prosci® ADKAR, Kotter’s 8-Step Model, or McKinsey 7-S Framework.
  • Process improvement certifications such as Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or PMP highly preferred.
  • Strong track record of navigating ambiguity and influencing senior leaders through evolving, high-visibility initiatives

You might also have:

  • Proven experience working in a consulting capacity supporting Fortune 500 or global clients, preferably with Microsoft or Microsoft vendors.
  • Background in change enablement for AI-driven process redesign or autonomous system deployment
  • Hands-on experience driving enterprise-wide readiness strategies across multiple geographies and business units.
  • ERP implementation experience (Workday, SAP, Oracle, or Dynamics 365).
  • Data migration and system upgrade readiness planning within large-scale enterprise transformations.
  • Change management experience supporting public sector clients, particularly for government-led technology or process transformation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with digital adoption platforms (e.g., WalkMe, Whatfix) and collaboration tools such as M365, SharePoint, and Teams.
