Job description

What You Will Do
The T-6: Theoretical Biology and Biophysics group is seeking qualified candidates to hire as Undergraduate Students to work within our research teams. This is an educational opportunity for the selected candidates to contribute to cutting-edge scientific research and to learn new skills and areas. We are looking for candidates to join our team in Los Alamos National Laboratory's Theoretical Division (T-Division), in the T-6 group. T-Division provides a unique and engaging environment that fosters multi-disciplinary collaborations to support the laboratory's strategic basic research and national security missions.
The Theoretical Biology and Biophysics (T-6) focuses on the modeling of biological systems ranging from macromolecules to populations and the analysis and the integration of heterogenous biological data. T-6 is the oldest theoretical biology group in the world devoted to mathematical modeling and computational analysis of problems in biology, medicine, and biosecurity.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Biology, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, or other relevant STEM disciplines.
  • A minimum 2.75 out of 4.0 GPA

Desired Qualifications:
Experience in one or more of the following topical areas:
  • Computer programming (Python, C++, etc.) in support of scientific or engineering applications;
  • Application of mathematical methods to develop models of physical phenomena;
  • Familiarity with scientific research methods and data demonstrated by completed coursework in the natural sciences;
  • Familiarity with computational research in applications such as computational biology, artificial intelligence, or machine learning.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) well in a professional scientific context.

Work Location:
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
