Description
The Department of Physiology & Biophysics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine seeks a qualified candidate to fill a faculty position at the rank of Instructor (non-tenure track).
The Instructor will lead and support research projects focused on mitochondrial dysfunction and proteostasis in neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease and ALS, and related disorders. The Instructor will design and execute mechanistic and translational research studies, mentor trainees, assist with laboratory management and contribute to grant writing and manuscript preparation. The position is intended for individuals pursuing an academic research career and provides opportunities to develop independent research projects and apply for external funding.
The Instructor will:

• Design and perform cell and molecular biology experiments to investigate mechanisms of mitochondrial dysfunction, protein aggregation, and neurodegeneration.
• Conduct biochemical and cell biological experiments, including immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation, immunoflourescence microscopy, mitochondrial functional assays, and protein interaction studies.
• Analyze complex datasets, including proteomics, transcriptomics, mitochondrial functional data, chemical compounds and peptide database, and animal behavioral and pathological data.
• Lead research projects, prepare study proposals, and manage project timelines.
• Summarize and present research findings at lab meetings and scientific conferences.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.
• Contribute to grant writing and is expected to apply for extramural funding as PI (e.g. NIH K series/R series or foundation grants).
• Assist the Principal Investigator in laboratory management and collaborative research projects, including industry collaborations and translational research programs.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physiology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, or a related discipline, and must have completed five years of postdoctoral training. The sucessful candidate should have demonstrated expertise in high-throughput screening, proteomics, metabolism, and drug discovery and development. Extensive experience working with animal models and patient derived iPSC models relevant to neurodegenerative diseases is required.
The candidate must have a strong record of scholarly achievement, as evidenced by publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, and a demonstrated ability to lead research projects independently. In addition, applicants must have three years of experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
The annual starting base salary range for this position is from $75,000 to $85,000. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
