Job Summary

Responsible for the systems and work order maintenance functions performed for the major construction programs. This position will be located at AEP Headquarters, but may require visits to construction sites.

Job Description

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Under limited supervision, perform the more complex and responsible data administration support activities for the Project Accounting Department. These duties include work order setup, contract and PO review, project analysis, in-service reporting, contract line verification and work order/project closure.

- Perform project cost close-out functions including closing CI's, and work orders and validating final project costs.

- Track capital improvement activities. Verification of submitted work order and contract line requests for completeness and accuracy in accordance with corporate guidelines and accounting policies. Provide guidance and follow-up to Project Accountants and Cost Analysts on irregularities and abnormal conditions to assure that the noted conditions are properly resolved.

- Implement all applicable AEP system policies and procedures including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to ensure that all required accounts, records, methods and procedures are properly maintained.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Associate degree in Accounting or Business-related field, or equivalent experience.

Work Experience: Experience (with Bachelor's degree): None.

Experience (with Associate's degree): One (1) year of general business/accounting work.

Experience (without degree): Two (2) years of significant exposure to a "project management" environment, as cost analyst, project accountant or related cost-control role.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical demand level is Sedentary In addition to the technical knowledge required, this position requires discretion, personal tact, judgment and initiative in order to satisfy the needs of the project teams while maintaining consistency and complying with policies and procedures.

Knowledge of AEP's power plant facilities and systems including FGDs and SCRs is preferred.

Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company's Corporate Compliance Policy.

Support AEP corporate objectives and initiatives.

Skills must include a working knowledge of and experience with Excel, Word and Business Objects.

Experience with PMM, PeopleSoft Financials, PowerPlant and AssetSuite, while not absolutely critical, are considered beneficial.

Experience with Access, PowerPoint, Primavera and work breakdown structures are less critical, but similarly beneficial.

This requires a significant amount of knowledge of various AEP accounting and work management systems.

Understand and be able to differentiate between O&M and capital costs.

Provide guidance to project teams in properly classifying costs.

Requires specialized understanding of Property Accounting guidelines and the ability to determine the proper disposition of charges when a capital asset is placed in service or retired.

Familiarity with capital removal and retirement, including proper account to be used for regulated and deregulated plants, and identification of retirement units is required to do this job well.

Additionally, where applicable, a working knowledge of the Uniform System of Accounts as prescribed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is preferred.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and simultaneous projects is required.

Attention to detail and effective communication skills are a must for this position.

Solid understanding of business unit financial and operations systems and databases, as well as some familiarity with AEP's accounting procedures is desired.

Participate in departmental process improvement initiatives.

Promote and enforce the Company's Accident Prevention and Safety and Health programs.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Daily communication with multiple project teams, including, but not limited to Project Managers, Project Cost Control personnel and other Project Accountants. Additional, regular communication with other AEP personnel responsible or concerned with taxes, purchasing, insurance, accounting, information technology and engineering issues.

Customer Focus: Continually improve knowledge of new technology and develop skills to increase efficiencies and improve service to the projects.

Base Salary: $64K - $79K
