ABOUT WATSON ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION
Watson Electrical Construction is a leading provider of electrical contracting services, specializing in delivering high-quality solutions for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Our company prides itself on its commitment to safety, innovation, and customer satisfaction. We are seeking an Apprentice-Helper1 to join our growing team in our Chesapeake, Virginia.

Overview
As a Full-Time Employee of Watson, the Apprentice - Helper 1 will assist skilled workers and technicians in various tasks within a designated facility, workshop, or field site. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals seeking practical experience and training in a technical trade or operational support environment while gaining the requirements to certify as an Electrician. The position offers opportunities for growth, development, and skill acquisition under the guidance of experienced Electricians and related roles.
Main Responsibilities
  • Willingness to meet the expectations of an Apprentice in the Watson Apprenticeship School including weekly "off hours" class attendance
  • Assist team members with basic maintenance, repair, installation, and operational activities.
  • Prepare tools, materials, and equipment for daily tasks as directed by supervisors and maintain tools within company guidelines.
  • Support housekeeping and organizational tasks to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Follow instructions and safety guidelines while learning new processes and equipment, including but not limited to, OSHA standards, tool handling policies and materials and supply management compliant processes.
  • Perform routine tasks such as cleaning, organizing, transporting materials, and monitoring supplies.
  • Document and report issues or observations to supervisors as required.
  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and skill development programs.
  • Work with installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems
  • Completion of final test for Apprenticeship at a minimum of 80% passing score
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Must pass entry exam for joining Apprenticeship Program of Watson
  • Have ability to travel to required locations throughout Watson for assignments as needed
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety practices.
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical stamina for standing, lifting, and performing manual tasks.
  • Basic problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Current drivers license in state where working
  • Positive State level driving record
  • Compliance with any federal/state or local licenses as may be required by job function
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Eligible to work in the country of employment.
  • Meets minimum standards for background check of Watson
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a helper, laborer, or assistant role (internship or volunteering included).
  • Exposure to technical trades, manufacturing, construction, or field operations.
  • Basic proficiency in handling tools or equipment.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written directions for accomplishment of assignments
  • Multi-task while handling multiple assignments in a single work environment
  • Read, write and communicate completely in a safe manner on all job sites
  • Ability to work independently
  • Work with standard and construction measurement functions with complete accuracy
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, depending on assignment and may have extreme temperature swings
  • Standing, walking, lifting (up to 75 lbs.), or carrying for extended periods may be required.
  • Ability to carry, on your person, up to 35 lbs. of work or tool belt as required.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be necessary.
  • Climbing ladders up to 14 feet in "A" frame ladder as well as extension ladders; May be required to climb and perform work at various heights up to 90 feel from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas.
  • Able to work 40 hours in a normal workweek with potential for overtime as required or even shifts as may be required.
  • Stoop, kneel or crouch when maneuvering work site environment for periods of time.
  • Manipulate repetitious work duties for short periods of time.
