Job description

Position:

Reporting to the Director, Individual Giving, the Manager, Major Gifts is responsible for cultivating and stewarding high-impact philanthropic relationships with individuals capable of making gifts of $25,000 or more, with no upper limit on giving. This role plays a critical part in advancing Hire Heroes USA’s mission by building long-term donor partnerships and strategically aligning philanthropic interests with the organization's mission through strategic and personalized engagement. 


Location: This is a full-time, hybrid role. Applicants should reside within commuting distance of our Alpharetta, GA, Colorado Springs, CO, or Raleigh, NC, Office Locations.

Responsibilities: 

  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 75–125 major gift donors and prospects beginning at $25,000, leading discovery conversations to understand donor interests, values, and philanthropic goals.
  • Proactively identify and qualify new major gift prospects through research, donor analytics, referrals, engagement opportunities, and collaboration with the Individual Giving team to ensure a healthy and sustainable pipeline.
  • Cultivate and steward donor relationships through personalized, ongoing engagement, including the development and execution of individualized donor engagement and stewardship plans aligned with Hire Heroes USA’s mission, programs, and impact.
  • Develop and execute donor solicitations grounded in donor readiness, alignment, and capacity, partnering with the Director of Individual Giving, executive leadership, and board members as appropriate.
  • Partner with executive leadership and board members on donor engagement, including introductions, hosting opportunities, stewardship, and relationship-based fundraising, providing preparation and guidance to support effective participation.
  • Develop and execute intimate donor gatherings, including small dinners and mission-focused experiences, and provide support for larger donor events, such as the annual gala and golf tournaments, by collaborating with the Individual Giving Department on guest strategy, follow-up, and stewardship.
  • Track and report on portfolio performance, pipeline activity, and fundraising progress, providing regular updates to leadership.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records, contact reports, engagement plans, and stewardship activity in Salesforce to support strong pipeline management and accountability
  • Work cross-functionally across Individual Giving, Corporate Partnerships, Marketing & Communications, and Programs teams to ensure aligned strategies, consistent messaging, and high-quality donor experiences.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience 
  • At least 3 years of relevant major gift fundraising experience in a charity or not-for-profit organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Salesforce Nonprofit Experience highly preferred 
  • High degree of discretion in dealing with confidential information
  • Ability to develop productive relationships across departments
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team, while productively engaging with varying levels of seniority within and outside Hire Heroes USA
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects and initiatives at one time

Estimated New Hire Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 annually
