Job description

Summary:

The Director of Development serves as the lead fundraising professional for Café Momentum and is responsible for designing, implementing, and executing a comprehensive development strategy that advances the organization's mission and financial sustainability.


Reporting directly to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the leadership team, the Director of Development is responsible for leading a comprehensive fundraising program that generates $2 million or more annually through individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, special events, and community engagement initiatives.

This position manages all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, annual giving, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, special events, board engagement, donor stewardship, and development operations. The Director of Development will build meaningful relationships with donors and stakeholders, expand Café Momentum's philanthropic network, and drive revenue growth to support strategic priorities and program expansion.

The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven fundraiser, strategic thinker, and collaborative leader with a demonstrated history of achieving ambitious fundraising goals.


Specific Duties:

  • Developing and implementing a strategy to build a comprehensive development effort to support Café Momentum’s programming – including, but not limited to: annual solicitations, fundraising events, giving days, corporate and foundation relations, major and planned giving, records maintenance, gift acknowledgement and donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Day-to-day oversight of fundraising activities to assure the smooth and effective functioning of the development department
  • Assisting the Executive Director in managing board member relationships and activities, including the coordination of board meetings, development of board communications and cultivating prospective new board members
  • Prepares resource forecasts, work plans and development policies, procedures and processes
  • Tracks all grant allocations, restricted and non-restricted in collaboration with the Director of Operations and/or Business Manager
  • Ensures all fundraising activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Manages and provides guidance to any development staff, ensuring all performance management requirements are met; overseeing department and staff performance and effectiveness; tracking and reporting on performance metrics, and driving improvement in compliance with internal policies and guidelines
  • Acts as a representative for the organization in the community and at special events
  • Some late night and weekend obligations
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Candidate Qualities & Experience:

  • A proven track record with 5+ years in the field of fundraising and development who has directly managed a portfolio of donors with clear performance metrics.
  • Background in leadership roles with annual and major gift programs, capital campaigns, planned giving, government and foundation grants and special events
  • Demonstrated leadership within internal and external cross-functional teams
  • Successful experience in and enthusiasm for donor cultivation and major gift solicitation, leading fundraising events and other large-scale community engagement initiatives
  • Broad and deep knowledge of fundraising principles, management programs incorporating major gift solicitations, annual and capital campaigns, planned giving and grant writing
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with experience with envisioning, strategizing, planning and executing in a growing organization
  • History of building strong relationships with benefactors and to match the “ask” with the donor
  • Proven experience managing and developing staff
  • A sophisticated communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to move comfortably in a wide variety of social settings and to forge solid personal relationships with major donors
  • An understanding of marketing and public relations and how they integrate successfully with fundraising
  • Experience with Salesforce is preferred


Compensation & Benefits:

  • Full time approx. 40 hours weekly (at least 4 days/week in office)
