Description
The Security Officer performs the necessary duties to ensure effective campus wide safety and security operations, including emergency preparedness, and perimeter security in order to provide a safe and secure environment for the community.
Shift(s):
Part Time
6am to 2pm, every other Saturday and Sunday

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Provide escorts, perform communitywide security patrols, check property for safety and security hazards, secure building, install/remove security locks and respond to all alarms
  • Investigate offenses, incidents, injuries, accidents, thefts, threats and other unusual occurrences; submit clear and concise case reports; enforce all vehicle regulations in accordance with the corporate policy
  • Respond to all alarms; conduct emergency drills in all areas of the community in accordance with applicable regulations and Life Safety Codes
  • Enter all vehicles into the vehicle management system; issue NEDAPS to all residents and appropriate passes to visitors and employees; monitor all traffic (vehicle /pedestrian) entering through main entrance and greet visitors; ensure all visitors are signed in appropriately and issued the correct visitor passes
  • Make all resident and employee badges, and keys; ensure all ID/Key request are processed and billed correctly
  • Keep Lead Security Officers and Security Department management informed of activities by way of radio communications, incident reports, memorandums, shift logs, email, or voice mail; complete data entry of Parking Management, Incident Report, Lost & Found and generate required reports from each system as applicable
  • Perform emergency maintenance and housekeeping services in the absence of engineering and housekeeping staff
  • Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with all customer groups.
  • Interact with federal, state, and local agencies in a calm and professional manner
  • Monitor CCTV and radio traffic and report and suspicious activity to patrol officers on duty
  • Dispatch patrol officers on duty to any call for service received in central station, any alarm received central station, or any event observed on camera
  • Ensure all lost and found items are logged in and stored correctly
  • Ensure all requests for badges, keys, or visitors are processed in a timely manner
  • Make public address announcements as required
  • Additional duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is of medium physical demand
  • Work is outside and inside of the buildings in all types of weather
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance 51+ pounds with manual or mechanical assistance
  • Must be able to walk long distance and climb stairways up to 50 % of the workday
  • Work is in a confined secure area
  • Must be able to identify colors Blue, green, red, etc.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITY
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

  • CPR First -Aid AED certification required within 6 months of employment

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITY
  • IAHSS Healthcare Security Officer Certification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook
  • Knowledge of alarm systems
  • Knowledge of Life Safety Codes

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma / GED
  • Valid Driver's License in the State of Virginia with a minimum age 21 to drive for the organization

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associates degree in criminal justice or related field
  • 1 year experience as a security officer in a hotel, hospital, or health care facility
