Job description

Maintenance Assistant
Barre Gardens Nursing and Rehab is seeking a Maintenance Assistant for our skilled nursing facility in Barre, VT.

The Maintenance Assistant will perform a variety of maintenance, light cleaning, and organizing duties, as well as drive the facility van to transport residents to and from appointments. A clean driving record is required.

Shift Available:

  • Full-Time (Monday-Friday, occasional on-call required)

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains facility by repairing walls, baseboards, doors, ceilings, mirrors, windows, and removing trash.

  • Moves furniture to complete assignments.

  • Coordinates daily maintenance services with nursing services when working in resident living areas.

  • Assists in terminal cleaning of resident rooms upon transfer, discharge, or death.

  • Follows the maintenance schedule/instructions provided by the supervisor, adhering to established maintenance policies and procedures.

  • Performs routine maintenance and repair on facility and equipment, including plumbing, plastering, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical work.

  • Conducts routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, and driveways, including cutting, trimming, sweeping, and policing as necessary or directed.

  • Replaces burned-out light bulbs, including exit lights and overhead lights.

  • Ensures the proper operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by assisting with the Preventive Maintenance Program.

  • Drives the facility van to transport residents safely to and from appointments, maintaining compliance with transportation safety regulations.

  • May assume on-call responsibilities as scheduled, including weekends and holidays.

  • Performs unscheduled or emergency maintenance tasks as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in cleaning, maintenance, or other related fields.

  • Familiarity with cleaning materials and equipment.

  • A clean driving record is required for transportation duties.
