The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the daily maintenance, repair, and overall upkeep of the facility's interior and exterior areas. This role ensures a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for residents, staff, and visitors by performing routine inspections, addressing maintenance requests, and supporting the overall environmental services team.

Maintenance Assistant Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Communicates on a regular basis with the Administrator who is responsible for ensuring that the facility physical plant equipment is functioning.
  • Leads facility inspection tours and is able to meet with Village inspectors in the absence of a Director of Environmental Services or Maintenance Director.
  • Performs snow and ice removal as directed
  • Performs minor tile, wallpaper, painting, and drywall repairs
  • Performs gardening and lawn care duties.
  • Repairs and replaces door and window hardware.
  • Maintains all lighting fixture.
  • Repairs furniture or recommends replacement.
  • Maintains and repairs pumps.
  • Perform all preventative maintenance.
  • Maintains accurate parts and tool inventories.
  • Maintains accurate documentation as directed
  • Maintains and repairs fire alarm system and nurse call system
  • Troubleshoots and repairs all kitchen equipment
  • Follows safety principles.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Maintenance Assistant Skills and Abilities:
  • The ability to make basic carpentry repairs.
  • Knowledgeable about basic electricity and how to safely make electrical repairs.
  • Knowledgeable about basic plumbing and be able to make plumbing repairs.
  • Knowledgeable about basic HVAC equipment preferred or ability to learn.
  • The ability to budget the needs of the department.

Maintenance Assistant Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience performing maintenance duties in a healthcare facility or industrial setting required.
  • Associate's degree, trade program certificates, or equivalent in work experience required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Walking, reaching, bending, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
  • Must be able to push, pull move and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
  • Must be able to walk, utilize a ladder, and work on the facility roof.
  • Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards. Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
