This position is a highly responsible law enforcement position in which incumbent serves as a uniformed or plain clothes member of the LSU Police Department assigned to the LSU Eunice campus. The incumbent serves as the Police Sergeant A at the LSU Eunice Police Department. Incumbent shall be required to maintain a commission as a University Police Officer and meet all requirements of the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POST). Works shifts designed to best supplement the department in their mission to provide safety to the campus population.

25% Reports directly to the Police Captain A and serves as acting supervisor of higher rank, providing direction to Police Officer (1A, 2A, 3A) classifications and Security Guards in the department as needed. Attends shift briefings relating to patrol, and attends law enforcement and supervisory training. The incumbent performs all duties required of subordinate officers as needed. Incumbent may serve as a supervisor on details or as needed to fulfill departmental objectives. Must possess a valid driver's license.

25% Services include an emphasis on enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, providing emergency services, crime prevention, and other services as directed. Responsible for such daily activities as roll call, officer vehicle and equipment inspections, shift scheduling, and report review.

25% Completes subordinate employee performance evaluations. Makes recommendations on policy and procedure. Supervises participants in training programs such as the Field Officer Training Program for new recruits. Supervises subordinates for compliance with applicable general orders, policies, objectives, and goals as set forth by the University or department. Provides functional supervision of all security staff, whether LSU, contracted, or temporary employees. Oversees daily operations of all security staff on the LSUE campus and/or engaged in LSUE campus activities.

25% Incumbent assists the Police Captain A in the execution of operations and administrative matters pertaining to the efficient administration of the department. This is a highly responsible job, requiring incumbent to have specific knowledge of university, local, state, and federal policy and procedure, and laws and regulations. The incumbent performs work which requires planning, coordination, research and interaction with LSU Police Department and University personnel, as well as local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, emergency response organizations, and the general public.

Physically strenuous activity relative to the nature of law enforcement is required. Must possess a valid driver's license. Per PS-18 this position is deemed essential to campus operations and will be required to report to or remain on campus during times of emergency or closure. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
