LOCATION: This position will work out of Story City or Des Moines location.


SHIFT: Days Monday-Friday


SUMMARY: Manage all shipments through use of a Transportation Management System (TMS). The logistics specialist will be responsible for managing preparation of and routing to delivery. Logistics specialist is responsible for notifying customer service about any delays in the delivery schedule. Staying on top of all deliveries and coordinating with other departments are essential qualities to possess in this fast-paced team environment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinates, processes, and reviews shipments to our customers in the most cost effective and timely manner possible. Includes creating Bill of Ladings, packing lists, NAFTA and other documentation needed.
  • Communications with internal team members as well as external communication with customers and carriers. In conjunction with the APC logistics Manager, helps manage and defuse escalated situations.
  • Manage the process of looking ahead and calling orders to find a cost effective and timely delivery.
  • Plan and schedule transportation routes for maximum efficiency.
  • Track shipments and maintain accurate records of inventory.
  • Communicate with suppliers, carriers, and customers to ensure timely delivery
  • Resolve issues related to delivery delays or damaged goods
  • Implement cost-saving measures such as consolidating shipments or negotiating rates
  • Ensure compliance with regulations related to transportation and logistics
  • Continuously monitor and improve logistics processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs
  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of international shipments, including customs clearance and documentation
  • Analyze data and create reports to evaluate performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Problem solving Addressing issues during the delivery process and optimizing logistics operation
  • Submitting and managing claims issued to carriers.
  • Maintains inventory of department supplies as needed.
  • Assists with receiving and shipping of UPS and Federal Express deliveries as needed.
  • Participate in department safety activities and safety team activities.
  • Identifies process improvements.
  • Tracking Shipment to ensure on time delivery.
  • Arrange expedited shipments to ensure timely delivery, confirm cost on spreadsheet.
  • Review documents and shipment contents prior to releasing them from our facility.
  • Track and analyze mis-shipments to ensure they don’t occur.
  • Provide tracking information upon request.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and refer clients to the appropriate channels.
  • Ensure quality of all services and processes within the facility
  • Ability to process NAFTA paperwork according to federal regulations.
  • Work with off-site warehouse, outsource vendors to ensure proper paperwork and pickups are made in a timely manner.
  • Manage Inventory disputes with both internal and off-site warehouses.
  • All shipments that shipped, remove from Radius/EFI no later than the next day by 9 am for Accounting to bill.
  • Provide Shipping/Receiving with paperwork to prepare orders for shipping.
  • Ensure all Authorizations to Destroy, Authorizations to Invoice and Defective Material Forms are completed in a timely manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate’s (A.S.) or Bachelor’s degree (B.A.), preferably in Logistics or Business; and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to handle pressure and get along well with peers. Able to find creative solutions to situations. Previous manufacturing experience preferred, but not necessary.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to communicate clearly to every level of the organization. Ability to effectively assemble and present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
