What are LTL group jobs?

LTL group jobs involve the transportation and coordination of shipments that do not require a full truckload. These roles typically exist within logistics companies and include positions such as dispatchers, drivers, freight coordinators, and warehouse staff. LTL group professionals work to consolidate smaller shipments from multiple customers into one truck, optimizing routes and delivery schedules to reduce costs and improve efficiency. They are essential in ensuring that goods are delivered safely, on time, and in compliance with regulations. Careers in LTL groups are suitable for individuals interested in supply chain operations, logistics, and transportation management.

How does working in an LTL group typically involve collaboration with other departments within a logistics company?

In an LTL group, collaboration is essential due to the complexity of coordinating shipments that combine freight from multiple customers. Team members frequently work with dispatchers, warehouse staff, customer service, and sales teams to ensure shipments are consolidated efficiently and delivered on time. Effective communication is key, as you'll need to coordinate schedules, resolve delivery issues, and keep all parties updated on shipment status. This cross-departmental teamwork not only supports smooth daily operations but also helps you build relationships and learn about different aspects of the logistics business.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LTL group logistics coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an LTL Group logistics coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, knowledge of freight management, and typically a background in supply chain or logistics. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), route optimization software, and sometimes industry certifications like the Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) are often required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help you effectively manage shipments and coordinate with carriers and clients. These skills and qualifications are crucial to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery and high customer satisfaction in a complex logistics environment.

What is the difference between Ltl Group vs Freight Coordinator?

A Freight Coordinator handles scheduling, tracking, and customer communication related to freight shipments. While both roles are integral to freight operations, the Ltl Group is more operational and dispatch-oriented, whereas the Freight Coordinator is more administrative and customer-focused.

Job description

About Company:

East Group Logistics is growing, and we’re looking for dependable, motivated individuals to join our team. We offer a supportive work environment, opportunities for growth, and competitive pay and benefits.

We regularly hire for drivers, operations and support roles. Whether you’re experienced or just starting out, we encourage you to apply.

East Group Logistics is an equal opportunity employer.

About the Role:

The LTL Dispatcher plays a critical role in coordinating and managing less-than-truckload freight shipments across the United States, ensuring timely and efficient delivery. This position requires overseeing the scheduling and routing of shipments, communicating effectively with drivers, customers, and carriers to optimize load assignments and minimize delays. The dispatcher is responsible for monitoring freight movements, resolving any issues that arise during transit, and maintaining accurate records of shipment statuses. Success in this role directly impacts customer satisfaction and operational efficiency by balancing cost-effectiveness with service quality. The LTL Dispatcher must be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in freight dispatching, preferably in LTL or trucking logistics.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards.
  • Proficiency with dispatch software and freight tracking systems.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in logistics, supply chain management, or related field.
  • Experience working with multiple carriers and understanding of LTL freight operations.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to analyze routing and scheduling data to improve efficiency.
  • Customer service experience in a logistics or transportation environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and assign LTL freight shipments to appropriate carriers and drivers based on route optimization and delivery deadlines.
  • Communicate regularly with drivers to provide updates, address concerns, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with customers and internal teams to confirm shipment details, resolve issues, and provide status updates.
  • Monitor freight movements using tracking systems and proactively address delays or disruptions to maintain on-time delivery.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of dispatch activities, shipment records, and communication logs for reporting and auditing purposes.

Skills:

The required skills enable the LTL Dispatcher to efficiently coordinate shipments by leveraging dispatch software and tracking tools to monitor freight status in real time. Strong communication skills are essential for liaising with drivers, customers, and carriers to ensure clarity and resolve issues promptly. Organizational skills help manage multiple shipments simultaneously while maintaining accurate records and documentation. Preferred skills such as data analysis and knowledge of regulatory compliance enhance the ability to optimize routes and ensure adherence to safety standards. Together, these skills support the dispatcher in maintaining smooth operations, improving delivery performance, and fostering positive relationships with all stakeholders.
