Job description

Reporting to the North America Logistics Operations Director, this role provides strategic and operational leadership for the end-to-end

movement of refined fuel across an assigned region. The position is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective logistics

operations while optimizing carrier performance, managing teams, and driving continuous improvement across a 24/7 operating

environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The position includes, but is not limited to, the following essential job duties, responsibilities and requirements:

Operational Leadership & Execution

  • Lead day-to-day logistics operations for refined fuel transportation across an assigned region.

  • Manage and develop a team of logistics and supply chain professionals, setting clear priorities and performance expectations.

  • Ensure consistent, reliable product delivery aligned with service, cost, and safety targets.

  • Oversee routing, dispatch, and carrier execution to maximize efficiency and asset utilization.

  • Provide operational leadership in a 24/7/365 environment, including escalation management and disruption response.

  • Lead capacity planning efforts to ensure adequate coverage during demand fluctuations, weather events, or supply

  • disruptions.

Carrier & Supplier Management

  • Develop and manage a high-performing carrier network to ensure capacity, reliability, and cost competitiveness.

  • Lead carrier sourcing and support contract negotiations in partnership with procurement.

  • Conduct monthly carrier performance reviews focused on safety, service, cost, and compliance metrics.

  • Strengthen strategic carrier relationships while expanding and diversifying the carrier base.

  • Ensure carriers meet contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and operational expectations.

Financial & Performance Management

  • Monitor freight costs, identify trends, and implement corrective actions to remain within budget targets.

  • Track and report on key performance indicators including service levels, cost metrics, efficiency, and exceptions.

  • Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities and margin improvement initiatives.

  • Partner with finance to ensure accurate billing, forecasting, and management of payables and receivables.

  • Support financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for logistics operations.

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze operational data to identify opportunities for efficiency gains, cost reduction, and service improvement.

  • Develop and maintain reporting dashboards and tools to support decision-making and performance tracking.

  • Lead and implement continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, or similar

  • approaches).

  • Drive adoption, optimization, and enhancement of dispatch, telematics, and logistics technology platforms.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase scalability and operational efficiency.

Compliance, Safety & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to all SOPs, regulatory requirements, and company policies across logistics operations.

  • Maintain high standards of safety, compliance, and risk management across the transportation network.

  • Lead efforts to proactively identify and mitigate operational risks, including supply disruptions and capacity shortages.

  • Support audit readiness and governance requirements and ensure consistent process execution.

  • Promote a culture of safety and operational discipline across teams and carrier partners.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with supply chain, finance, retail operations, and external stakeholders to align priorities.

  • Communicate operational performance, risks, and initiatives to leadership.

  • Support network planning and supply optimization strategies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, or related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in logistics or supply chain operations.

  • 5+ years of people leadership experience in logistics operations or an equivalent supply-chain related role.

  • Experience managing bulk transportation and medium-to-large trucking fleets.

  • Experience operating in a 24/7 logistics or distribution environment.

  • Strong knowledge of fuel logistics, terminal operations, and pipeline networks.

  • Experience with transportation management, dispatch, and telematics systems.

  • Solid understanding of logistic financials, cost drivers, and budgeting.

  • Data analysis capability with experience using reporting tools and performance metrics.

  • Understanding of regulatory and safety requirements in transportation/logistics.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, set direction, and drive accountability.

  • Strong decision-making skills in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.

  • Ability to prioritize and adapt quickly to changing operational demands.

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on execution and outcomes.
