Job description

The Logistics Associate is responsible for the accurate, efficient, organized, and safe receipt, storage, preservation, retrieval, and timely dispatch of goods. The LA processes inbound and outbound inventory with particular attention paid to customer required dates and production needs, ensures workplace health and safety requirements are met and takes responsibility for the security of the building and stock. The Logistics Associate is expected to support production and customer delivery dates in a courteous and professional manner when engaging with customer representatives, vendors, and SIT employees
Specific responsibilities and Authorities may include:
Shipping and Receiving
  • Process all incoming and outgoing shipments and documentation according to procedures.
  • Pick-up and deliver shipments, ensuring that material is delivered and unloaded safely and undamaged as required.
  • Track and maintain shipping supplies inventory and assist in sourcing pallets and crates as needed.
  • Package, secure, and crate materials ranging in size and weight from small and lightweight to large and heavy, using power and hand tools, and bracing, and strapping techniques.
  • Prepare shipping documents and labels.
  • Label and Package outbound shipments according to SIT minimum standards, job packaging plan, and customer requirements.
  • Photograph all outbound material as evidence of correct count, kind, and adequate packaging then save to the shared drive.
  • Record damage of incoming material on Bill of Lading and photograph.
  • Unload, receive, and determine required inspection plan for incoming material.
  • Perform Level 1 inspection (3-way check) as well as, expedite any other applicable inspections.
  • Record receipt and binning of goods in the ERP

Production
  • Pick and delivery items to production floor as directed by the CA
  • Work with production manager and CA to identify any material remaining after completion of job fabrication and assembly.

Inventory
  • Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other areas according to the inventory status (Accepted, Non-Conforming, QA Hold).
  • Mark/Tag all material to indicate status: Accepted, Rejected, QA hold, In Process, Customer Property, Job numbers, and Heat Numbers.
  • Ensure inventory is not removed from area without proper documentation
  • Communicate with Logistics Manager regarding job material that is found to be damaged or missing
  • Complete weekly cycle counts and ensure inventory records are accurate.
  • Address material remaining after job completion as directed by engineering.
  • Process Vendor Returns as requested.
  • Submit claims for damage to carriers.

Maintenance
  • Maintain shipping and receiving and inventory areas for cleanliness and orderliness.
  • Asist in the planned maintenance of vehicles, machinery, and equipment as needed.
  • Clean and maintain warehouse equipment.
  • Perform daily inspections of forklift equipment as applicable.
  • Complete vehicle log as required. Save the record on the shared drive. An additional copy will be sent to the QHSE Manager of SIT.
  • Perform general building maintenance (change light bulbs, paint, move/assemble furniture, etc.) as needed

Other
  • Support objectives of the team (Logistics Manager, Contracts Administrator, Shop Forman, and Client Services Representative).
  • Ensure the health, safety, cleanliness, and security of the work environment.
  • Support and participate in the organization's continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001 and understand the implications of not complying with the quality management system.
  • Demonstrate leadership and commitment with respect to the quality management system by:
    • taking accountability for the effectiveness of the quality management system.
    • ensuring that the quality policy and quality objectives are established for the quality management system and are compatible with the context and strategic direction of the organization.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  • Associates degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Good driving record.
  • Current CDL License a plus.
  • Forklift Truck License a plus.
  • Experience may be accepted in lieu of education.

EXPERIENCE
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Education may be accepted in lieu of experience.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment a plus.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Knowledge of safe operating procedures.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools to brace and secure heavy equipment in crates and on pallets for transportation.
  • Ability to cut lumber/ build crates
  • Ability to move steel plate and other heavy material with a heavy industrial forklift.
  • Knowledge of inventory procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and follow engineering drawings, Bills of Material, and technical specifications, a plus.
  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), a plus

PHYSICAL AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 lbs, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
  • Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements imposed by clients.
  • Able to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus.
  • Regular exposure to hot, wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.
  • Able to work in confined spaces if necessary.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, and vibration.
