AM Bus Company Is Hiring Assistant Operations Manager in the Chicago, IL area!

Earn $75,000 - $85,000 Annually - Full Benefits


Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 depending on experience.
  • Opportunity for salary growth as responsibilities expand.

  • Clear pathway to promotion into Operations Manager within 12–24 months based on performance.


Work Schedule:

  • Standard shift: 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM (or until operations are stabilized).


Responsibilities:

Daily Operations & Dispatch Support

  • Assist with managing day-to-day operations for 200+ employees and 100+ routes.
  • Monitor route performance, on-time arrivals, and schedule adjustments.
  • Support dispatch with problem-solving during delays, breakdowns, and call-offs.
  • Ensure bus inspections, safety protocols, and compliance tasks are completed.

Driver & Staff Management

  • Help oversee drivers, attendance, tardies, call-offs, and discipline.
  • Maintain up-to-date driver files, certifications, and training documentation.

Customer & School Communication

  • Assist with communication to CPS, school administrators, and parents when issues arise.
  • Document issues and provide real-time updates to schools and management.

Data, Reporting & Efficiency Improvements

  • Track daily operations metrics: on-time percentages, absentee trends, route performance.
  • Assist with route planning, efficiency adjustments, and optimization.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Strong leadership mindset and desire to grow into a management role.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Organized, reliable, and able to handle fast-paced, high-pressure situations.

Preferred:

  •  2–5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, operations, dispatch, or related field.
  •  Prior experience in school transportation, paratransit, or logistics.
  • Experience supervising employees.
  • Comfortable with technology — dispatch systems, routing software, GPS, etc.
  • Basic understanding of DOT, IDOT, or CPS transportation compliance.
