Job description

Job Summary:
Lockton Insurance and Claims Counsel provide our clients with guidance and advocacy through financial lines claims. Using legal background and expertise, Insurance and Claims Counsel stay abreast of current legal trends and provide consultation and advice to clients, producers and internal teams.
Position responsibilities:
  • Responsible for handling large volume of financial lines claims, including D&O, E&O, Fiduciary, Crime, Cyber and Employment Practices. Responsibilities include:
    • Guiding clients through the claims process and assistance in accessing carrier resources
    • Analyzing coverage and overseeing the timely reporting of claims
    • Responding to coverage issues, strategizing, and effectively advocating on behalf of Lockton clients
    • Advising and consulting with clients and internal constituents on coverage issues concerning financial lines claims
    • Advising and consulting with clients regarding the financial lines claim process and potential insurance solutions
  • Review financial lines policies and specific wording for coverage gaps and potential issues, consult with clients and internal constituents regarding the same
  • Research current trends in law that pertain to the financial lines space and our clients' insurance programs
  • Draft white papers and other educational presentations concerning financial lines insurance
  • Accumulate required continuing educational credits to maintain current insurance and legal license
  • Represent Lockton at client meetings and external events
  • Prepare written correspondence, analyses, reports and memos as needed
  • Make a positive contribution to customer satisfaction and constantly strive to improve service to the customer
  • Communicate in a positive manner to contribute to a cohesive, pleasant work environment
  • Protect the confidentiality of information learned by performing the duties of the position; reinforce the importance of confidentiality of information to all department associates
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Law Degree required. Bachelor's degree in a business-related program or equivalent education and/or experience a plus
  • 5+ years of experience as an attorney with an insurance company, law firm or other corporation. Experience handling insurance coverage matters or litigation a plus.
  • Understanding of the overall business, operations, and commercial insurance needs of clients
  • Executive level presence to interface with top management of other businesses, representing Lockton in the highest professional manner
  • Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills including preparation and execution
  • Consistent proven ability to organize and manage time to meet time-sensitive deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to interact with clients and associates at all levels of responsibility, building strong internal and external client relationships
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills, including resolving unusual and complex internal and external issues
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to understand, communicate with, find solutions for, deserve respect from, and motivate others
  • Ability to travel by automobile and aircraft and be away from home more than one day and night
  • Legally able to work in the United States
