How much do location analyst jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 10, 2026, the average yearly pay for location analyst in the United States is $73,261.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $52,500.00 and $87,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are location analysts?

Location analysts are professionals who use data and geographic information to help businesses decide where to open new stores, offices, or other facilities. They analyze factors such as demographics, competition, traffic patterns, and economic trends to determine the best locations for business operations. Their work helps companies maximize profitability and minimize risk by making informed site selection decisions.

What is the highest paying analyst job?

The highest paying analyst roles are often in financial analysis, management consulting, or data science, with senior positions such as financial director or chief data officer earning the most. These roles typically require advanced skills, certifications, and experience, and compensation can vary based on industry and location.

What jobs make $1,000,000 a year?

Location Analysts typically do not earn $1,000,000 annually; such high earnings are usually associated with top executives, successful entrepreneurs, or highly specialized roles in finance, technology, or investment banking. Achieving this level of income often requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and sometimes ownership stakes or performance-based bonuses.

How to become a location analyst?

To become a location analyst, typically a bachelor's degree in geography, urban planning, data analysis, or a related field is required. Developing skills in GIS software, data analysis, and spatial modeling, along with proficiency in tools like ArcGIS or QGIS, is essential. Gaining experience through internships or entry-level positions can also help build relevant expertise.

What is the difference between Location Analyst vs Market Research Analyst?

AspectLocation AnalystMarket Research Analyst
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Geography, Urban Planning, or related fields; GIS certifications often preferredBachelor's in Marketing, Business, or Social Sciences; Market research certifications advantageous
Work EnvironmentGovernment agencies, real estate firms, consulting companiesMarketing firms, corporations, consulting agencies
Employer & Industry UsageUsed to analyze geographic data for site selection, urban planning, and logisticsUsed to analyze consumer data, market trends, and customer preferences

While both roles analyze data related to locations, a Location Analyst focuses on geographic and spatial data to inform decisions like site selection and urban planning. In contrast, a Market Research Analyst examines consumer and market data to guide marketing strategies. Both roles require analytical skills but serve different industry needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Location Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Location Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in geographic information systems (GIS), and a relevant degree in geography, urban planning, or data science. Familiarity with tools like ArcGIS, QGIS, spatial databases, and data visualization software is typically required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help you interpret data and present actionable insights. These skills ensure accurate site selection and strategic decision-making for businesses reliant on geographic and demographic analysis.

What does a location analyst do?

A location analyst evaluates geographic data to determine optimal sites for business operations, retail stores, or service delivery. They analyze demographic, economic, and environmental factors using GIS tools and data analysis skills to support strategic decision-making. The role often requires proficiency in mapping software and data interpretation.

What are some common challenges a Location Analyst faces when gathering and interpreting geospatial data for business decisions?

A Location Analyst often faces challenges such as ensuring data accuracy, integrating data from multiple sources, and accounting for rapidly changing market conditions. Interpreting geospatial data requires strong analytical skills to identify relevant patterns while filtering out noise. Additionally, Location Analysts must effectively communicate their findings to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with teams like marketing, operations, and real estate to support strategic decisions.
