What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Localization, and why are they important?

To thrive in Localization, you need strong linguistic proficiency in at least two languages, cultural fluency, and a background in translation or localization studies. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, localization management systems, and industry-standard file formats is typically required. Attention to detail, cross-cultural communication, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for ensuring content resonates with target audiences. These abilities are essential for delivering accurate, culturally appropriate translations that maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the original content across different markets.

What is localization in the context of jobs?

Localization refers to the process of adapting content, products, or services to meet the language, cultural, and regulatory requirements of a specific target market or region. Professionals in localization work on translating text, modifying images, adjusting formats, and ensuring that everything resonates with the local audience. This process goes beyond simple translation, involving cultural adaptation and sometimes technical modifications to ensure the content is fully accessible and relevant to the intended users.

What Are Localization Jobs?

Localization jobs include translation work, anthropological study, graphic design, product and user experience testing, market research, and sales. Although translation and localization are different, translation is a key component of localization efforts, and translators are essential to the process. Cultural and sociological research is also important because product developers need to have a strong understanding of the local audience. Graphic designers play an essential role because they need to localize graphics so that they will be intelligible to distinct audiences. For example, a roadmap designed for Koreans may appear different than the same roadmap for Japanese readers.

What types of collaboration are common for localization professionals within a company?

Localization professionals frequently work closely with product managers, developers, designers, and marketing teams to ensure that content is accurately adapted for different regions. This collaborative approach helps address linguistic, cultural, and technical challenges early in the development process, ensuring a seamless user experience across markets. Effective communication and project management are key, as localization specialists often coordinate with both in-house and external translation vendors to meet tight deadlines and maintain consistency.

What is the difference between Localization vs Translation?

AspectLocalizationTranslation

Localization involves adapting content for a specific locale, considering cultural nuances, while translation focuses solely on converting text from one language to another. Both roles require language skills, but localization demands additional cultural and technical knowledge to ensure content resonates with the target audience.

Job description

Flowserve is seeking a commercially driven, technically elite Product Leader to completely own and execute the worldwide strategy, roadmap, and profitability for an assigned downstream product portfolio, including all associated accessories and aftermarket offerings.

In this senior leadership seat, you will act as the ultimate business owner for your product line-balancing long-term 1-, 3-, and 5-year commercial roadmaps with daily cross-functional execution across Engineering/R&D, Sales, Global Manufacturing, and Supply Chain. Because these products are highly engineered and specialized, you will maintain deep technical application intimacy, regularly visiting customer sites and providing tactical sales and configuration support globally.

Core Responsibilities

  • Strategic Roadmap & Financial Ownership: Define the product's market boundaries, unique value proposition, and long-term positioning. Establish and meet aggressive targets for total revenue, product costs, gross margins, and global market share over 1-, 3-, and 5-year horizons.
  • Lifecycle & Portfolio Optimization: Define specific hardware variations, technical features, lead times, standard global market pricing, and designated sales channels alongside platform executives.
  • Global Systems & Configuration: Establish and control global technical product definitions within corporate sales configurators and pricing systems to ensure accurate field quoting.
  • Cross-Functional Project Leadership: Author and maintain bounded project charters (covering time, scope, and cost) for initiatives spanning specialized pricing, promotional marketing campaigns, R&D engineering, localization, and strategic supply chain partnerships.
  • Data-Driven Performance Monitoring: Audit and reconcile ROI on all project budgets. Continuously monitor post-launch metrics including order volume, hit rates, revenue, total profitability, and warranty costs.
  • Voice of Customer & Field Enablement: Conduct periodic joint customer site visits with Regional Sales teams to maintain a deep technical intimacy with field applications. Partner with the Educational Services Group to lead localized technical training for customers, application engineers, sales teams, and Quick Response Centers (QRCs).

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Engineering, Business, or a relevant industrial field.
  • Experience Baseline: 8 to 10+ years of relevant experience in a global product management, applications engineering, or high-level technical sales role focused on highly engineered specialty hardware.
  • Industry Domain Expertise:A well-developed, deep technical understanding of the chemical processing, LNG, and downstream refining markets, including relevant piping systems, fluid dynamics, and the operational role of control valves in those processes.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong proficiency in corporate financial principles, including evaluating capital project returns on investment (ROI), discounted cash flows (DCF), and margin variance analysis.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Proven ability to build consensus and coordinate multi-disciplinary, matrixed teams (Sales, Manufacturing, R&D, Procurement) across diverse geographical regions and business cultures.
  • Communications: Exceptional presentation, oral, and written communication skills with explicit experience facilitating technical workshops or executive business reviews.
The pay range for this role is $131,832.39 - $197,687.61 per year.
