Job description

Weekend availability (Saturday and Sunday) is required.

Wage Scale 

$21.30/hour + tips 

This position will earn a base hourly rate equivalent to the City of Seattle's minimum wage- $21.30/hour- and will be eligible to participate in our company tip pool. Our tip pool distributions fluctuate, and we cannot guarantee a certain distribution. However, employees generally earn between $1.70 and $8.70 in tips per hour. 

As a Prep Cook at LOCAL Public Eatery, you will prepare all ingredients needed to create the unexpected and awe-inspiring dishes on display. Impact the overall execution by following specs and guidelines to make sure product quality and portions are hit. Support your team and help create a fun workplace where guests are left to wonder how you do it. 

Duties  

  • Exude professionalism, friendliness and fun towards guests and fellow partners.  
  • Prep all ingredients and food products to fulfill prep lists, par levels, rotation and recipe standards.  
  • Learn about inventory management, derive food cost, and culinary terms.  
  • Utilize various prep and cooking methods to ensure the quick, precise creation of our menu items in accordance with LOCAL Public Eatery recipes. Wash, chop, cut, grill, roast, sauté, fry, etc. Coordinate with other stations.  
  • Develop knife skills for efficiency and safety.  
  • Maintain prep and cooking areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner.  
  • Clean, organize, and maintain refrigerators, cooler drawers, ovens, prep and dry storage areas, etc. For food safe storage and preparation.  
  • Complete assigned side work and closing duties to set your team up for success. Stock, clean, and organize line stations.  
  • Comply with all required food handling and workplace safety procedures.  
  • Follow all instructions and guidelines for safe usage of kitchen equipment and cleaning compounds. Report equipment problems and maintenance issues to leadership immediately. 
  • Follow all food service and handling safety precautions and procedures.  

What’s required  

  • 1+ years of experience in a fast-paced and high-volume kitchen 
  • The ability to connect with others; you know that teamwork means success. 
  • A passion for cooking, you enjoy the innovation of our menus. 
  • You continuously seek opportunities to grow and learn. 
  • Must have or be able to obtain valid local and/or state Food Handler permits. 
  • Be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; frequent bending, reaching, and stretching; repetitive manual tasks; and lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
