Position Description

Job/Department Summary:

Under general supervision, incumbent will perform a full range of journey-level locksmith work to ensure the necessary security for University buildings and to meet applicable building and safety codes and regulations.

The Locksmith position is primarily responsible for full-range of skilled locksmith work. Incumbents in this classification assist in the development of master key systems and electronic access control and are independently responsible for the implementation and maintenance of these programs. Incumbents in this classification also may provide instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.

Facilities Management and Services (FMS) is a large, complex department consisting of approximately 150 employees working various shifts and providing diverse administrative and operational services campus wide.

Required Education and Experience:

The knowledge and abilities listed above would normally be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills such as the equivalent to that acquired through completion of a locksmith's apprenticeship program.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills: 

  • Licensed or certified in locksmithing.
  • Journey-level experience in the design, installation, programming and maintenance of Card Access and/or Key Watcher Asset Control Boxes.
  • Certified with journey level experience with Medeco Biaxial Key System.
  • Experience with key management software.
  • Experience working on a college campus.

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm 

CSU Classification Salary Range:  $64,260 (Step 1) - $93,612 (Step 20) per year.

Additional Information:

Education Code 89521 Requirements: Applicants will be required to disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years only after a determination is made that they meet the minimum qualifications for the position, and before an offer of employment is extended. Applicants who reach the final stages of the application process must also sign a release form that authorizes the release of information by the applicant's current and/or former employers to the CSU concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct. 

California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, may require that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check, sexual offender registry check, and/or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. Failure to satisfactorily complete or pass the background check may impact the job offer or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for posted positions identified as sensitive.

This position is considered a sensitive position based on CSU guidelines. Incumbent is responsible for the safety and security of Level 1 data, sometimes also referred to as Level 1 protected data. This is confidential information that is in most cases protected by statutes, regulations, or other legal mandates.

The person holding this position is considered a "Limited Mandated Reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.

Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.

The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination.
