Job description

Amazon Interactive Video Service (Amazon IVS) is AWS's fully managed live streaming service, built on the same battle-tested technology that powers Twitch and trusted by thousands of enterprises across gaming, social, live commerce, sports, and entertainment.
Our mission: enable developers to build communities around live video. We handle everything from ingest to processing to delivery at global scale, so developers can focus on creating interactive, engaging live experiences for their audiences. Whether you're streaming to tens of millions of concurrent viewers or just getting started, Amazon IVS removes the complexity so developers can move fast.
We are looking for a Software Development Manager for the Stream Management team which owns distributed systems that manage live stream lifecycle, video workflow task placement, and operational tools that empower our organization to safely and efficiently operate dozens of highly available global data plane services across dozens of AWS availability zones.
As a Software Development Manager at Amazon IVS, you will collaborate deeply with peer managers, principal engineers, and product managers to iterate on the team's engineering road map, grow and manage talent, and dive deep into service design and architecture. This is a high visibility role with the opportunity to positively impact our most-critical customers and their businesses.
Key job responsibilities
- Define and execute technical strategies to deliver Amazon IVS features, balancing customer needs, business priorities, and technical excellence while driving innovation in stream lifecycle management, video workflow task placement, and operational tooling

- Drive hiring, retention, and development of engineering talent, building diverse, high-performing teams and developing future leaders through coaching and mentorship
- Partner with Product Management, Principal Engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape product vision, prioritize investments, and deliver customer-obsessed solutions
- Manage complex technical dependencies and integration points across services, ensuring seamless customer experiences and architectural alignment
- Drive cost optimization and efficiency improvements while maintaining service quality
About the team
Amazon Interactive Video Service (Amazon IVS) is a managed live streaming solution from AWS that enables low-latency and real-time video experiences for millions of viewers worldwide. We power engaging live experiences for some of the largest customers in the live video space and continuously push the boundaries of what's possible with interactive video technology.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using service-oriented architecture experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience building and operating globally available services using AWS dependencies including DynamoDB, SQS, CloudWatch Metrics/Logs, ECS, EC2, and S3
- Experience with user-generated content platforms, e.g. building products for UGC customers or working on infrastructure that enables creators and audiences at scale
- Experience with live video streaming concepts and technologies including video/audio codecs (e.g. H.264/H.265/AV1), container formats (e.g. TS/MP4), and transport protocols (e.g. RTMP, SRT, WebRTC)
