Hours: Full-Time, Salary
Pay:Commensurate with experience and level of educational achievement according to Southern Adventist University's salary structure for faculty.
Start Date:June 1, 2026
Job Summary:Southern Adventist University invites applications for an in-person faculty position in the School of Social Work, in residence. The ideal candidate will have the expertise to teach a range of social work and sociology courses, through in person, online, and hybrid teaching methods.
We invite persons whose innovative ideas and research interests will support students' learning of practice, policies, and transformational interventions to enhance quality of human life and well-being and promote social service within a Seventh-day Adventist Christian educational environment.
Qualifications:
  • Required to hold a MSW degree from a CSWE accredited program and at least two years of full-time, post-master's professional social work experience.
  • Hold a PhD or doctorate degree in social work or related discipline. Applicants who are in the final stages of their doctoral program will be considered, contingent upon successful completion of the degree within 6 months of the start date, or have a strong documented plan for degree completion.
  • A minimum of 18 completed graduate credits in sociology preferred.
  • A degree in theology or SDA religious studies is a plus.
  • Teaching experience in social work at the BSW and/or MSW levels.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses.
  • Prepare, design, and deliver lectures and course content.
  • Utilize innovative and inclusive teaching methods to engage diverse learners.
  • Facilitate class discussions and activities.
  • Create and administer course assignments, examinations, and other assessments.
  • Proactively advise, engage with, and support the success of students.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Support and contribute to curriculum development efforts as needed for courses.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program accreditation efforts.
  • Ensure the quality of teaching by engaging in ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Engage with the local community and professional organizations to promote social work values.
  • Create and maintain cooperative, collaborative, and effective working relationships with administrators, faculty members, and staff in the delivery of courses and programs.
  • Participate in school and university committees.
  • Actively participate in all School of Social Work activities, such as department meetings, social gatherings, sponsored students' activities celebrations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the dean.
Special Requirements:
Must have a strongly expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and an SDA church member in good and regular standing.
