Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Support the Southern California Conference in fulfilling its vision of Embracing Community in Christ and its mission"to exalt Christ by cultivating healthy churches and schools". Embody the organization's values of integrity with transparency, engagement, stewardship, unity in diversity, and relationships and team.

Provide quality instruction and supervision of students in a nurturing Christian atmosphere.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Regular attendance.
  2. Plan classroom program according to prescribed standards and content.
    1. Develop long-range plans for the school year.
    2. Ensure that Adventist standards are intentionally included in lesson plans.
    3. Adapt daily plans to meet the needs of the students' instructional levels.
    4. Infuse faith and learning into all lessons.
    5. Design lessons with relevant content, skills and values.
  3. Deliver differentiated instruction in engaging all students at all times and to ensure every child learns through techniques, structures, and strategies designed to meet each student's needs.
    1. Techniques - effective steps designed to organize or manage the classroom environment creating an inclusive, supporting and caring classroom.
    2. Structures - planned processes designed to organize interaction of individuals to build a learning community.
    3. Strategies - researched-based methods of teaching that leads to successful learning.
  4. Fulfill modified school administrative duties as outlined in the Pacific Union's Education Code.
  5. Supervise children closely inside the classroom, during recess, in all activities, on field trips and after school activities.
  6. Communicate with parents in a timely manner in reporting student progress and school activities.
  7. Communicate openly and honestly with the director daily.
  8. Supervise proper handover of children, relevant information, and belongings to parents and/or next teacher.
  9. Participate in all emergency drills (earthquakes, fire, lockdown, etc.).
  10. Participate in cultural programs, sports activities, and ceremonies planned by the school.
  11. Demonstrate professional loyalty in observing school's policies and regulations.
  12. Refrain from discussing confidential or sensitive information with unauthorized persons.
  13. Manifest high regard for the teaching profession in grooming, demeanor, and use of social media in all its forms.
  14. Represent the Seventh-day Adventist Church in a positive manner.
  15. Evidence of physical and emotional health required for working with children.
  16. Participate in continual and professional development programs and activities.
  17. Comply with policies and procedures of the Conference, including but not limited to those in the employee handbook, and the North American Division Working Policy.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job, the individual

  • Must perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily, and
  • Be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in good standing, and
  • Documented proof to work legally in the USA
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including duties associated with working in a classroom environment with students.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of Live Scan fingerprinting and background clearance.

Education and Experience

Undergraduate degree in liberal studies/elementary education from a recognized college or university is required. At least 3-5 years of experience preferred or a combination of academic qualifications and relevant work experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to do the following for prolonged or significant periods: sit, stand; walk; use hands and fingers; reach with arms; talk; and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, and kneel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, color, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Extended hours and travel may occasionally be required.
