Switchman
Pay: $18.00/hour
Shift: To be discussed
Location: Hammond, IN - On-site
Integrity Trade Services is hiring a Switchman for our Wolf Lake Terminals industrial client to start immediately at $18.00/hour. Receive comprehensive benefits through ITS upon hire!
Responsibilities
  • Safely operate switch engines, starting and stopping engines as needed
  • Guide switch engine operators while working ground side of the switch
  • Secure outbound railcars according to DOT and safety standards
  • Check oils, fuel, radiator, and brakes of switch engines prior to operation
  • Properly throw rail switches and fulfill all Rail Car Switching Operating Procedure 216 requirements
  • Inspect tank wagons, tank cars, and ISO containers for cleanliness, odor, and safety prior to loading
  • Load and unload products from storage tanks, railcars, and ISO containers using hoses, pumps, and filters
  • Gauge and temperature storage tanks and containers accurately
  • Sample products and execute transfers for blending, packaging, or shipping
  • Conduct heating procedures using steam and perform filter changes and hose pressure tests
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices and perform general terminal maintenance
  • Promote excellent customer relations and safety practices
Qualifications
  • Experience in railcar switching or spotting
  • Hazardous Communication, Hazmat, D.O.T., Hazwoper, and Confined Space awareness training
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and switch engines safely
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills
  • Knowledge of safety and inspection procedures for rail and tank equipment
