Description:

The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, nonprofit organization that serves women, girls, and all immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and other violence. Our whole-person approach to services provides each survivor with free legal support and social services to secure their rights and build stable lives. We translate our client services work into expert training, outreach, and policy advocacy to ensure that systems, laws, and policies protect immigrant survivors from violence and exploitation. Our programs efficiently and effectively leverage donated professional services from a vast network of attorneys, medical professionals, and other experts to serve as many immigrant survivors as possible. By amplifying the experiences of survivors, our mission is to create a world in which all people share equal rights and live in safety and with dignity.


The Chief of Staff is a half-time role (20 hours per week) serving as a strategic partner to the CEO and leadership team, supporting internal processes, helping to problem solve operational and management challenges, leading special projects, and supporting governance. This role requires mature judgment, intellectual flexibility, significant management expertise, and a highly consultative approach. The Chief of Staff operates as a facilitator and process holder, ensuring alignment and collaboration across the leadership team. This role reports to the CEO and focuses their support on highly competent leaders in a lean, mission-driven environment that prioritizes efficiency while maintaining a values-aligned and trauma-informed approach. The ideal candidate is consultative and organized, and an excellent oral and written communicator.


Responsibilities

  • Provide management support to the CEO and leadership team members, spotting issues and helping to identify solutions to problems and challenges
  • Facilitate cross-functional team processes and ensure follow-through on decisions and action items.
  • Support the CEO and leadership team with prioritization, goal setting, consultative decision-making, and the execution of special, broad organizational initiatives.
  • Lead strategic projects in partnership with leadership team members as appropriate
  • Oversee annual planning processes
  • Provide management coverage for leadership team members during absences as appropriate
  • Support the CEO and Board Chair with quarterly agenda-setting and report preparation
Requirements:
  • Eight or more years of experience in people and project management and operations
  • Demonstrated success in leadership, process development, cross-functional systems, organizational development, and project coordination
  • Comfortable operating as a facilitator and coordinator rather than a primary decision-maker
  • Experience supporting or engaging with Boards or nonprofit governance
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a part-time role with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural humility, and commitment to trauma-informed practices
  • Sincere and informed commitment to equity and inclusion, including knowledge of social justice issues and willingness to engage with teams working to end systemic harm to women and immigrants.

Annual salary and benefits: The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $70,000 per year for a part time role (20 hours per week) We consider skills, experience and internal equity in determining compensation and use a consultative process to identify where candidates fall inside the posted range. Candidates with extensive experience or specialized expertise qualifying them for this position may be considered at the higher end of the range. This position provides participation in a 401(k) defined contribution retirement plan; flexible work schedules; hybrid work environment and professional development opportunities. Employees have a generous self-managed leave benefit inclusive of vacation, sick and holidays, including office closure the week between Christmas and New Year’s.
