Job description

About the Role:

HMT is seeking a capable Holewatch/Firewatch to perform or assist in all general site work. The Hole Watch / Fire Watch must be able to read prints and written instructions as well as follow verbal directions as required to perform duties and responsibilities as listed below. Heavy lifting will often be required to perform tasks. Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb. Must be able to perform required duties for extended periods of time inside confined spaces, often with breathing equipment required. Must be able to tolerate extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Follow instructions with regard to general construction tasks. Work in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Perform or assist with fit-up and preparation of welds. This will frequently require working with grinding, chipping and gouging equipment.
  • Perform or assist with post weld cleanup, inspection, and repair.
  • May be asked to operate heavy equipment such as tractors, skid steered loaders, cranes, aerial lifts, and cranes. Documented training must be completed, and approved by HMT Safety Management, before operating any heavy equipment.
  • Proper eye protection
  • Hard Hat
  • Steel Toe safety boots
  • FR Clothing
  • Hearing protection and gloves when required.
  • Communicate regularly with the Foreman with regard to issues and concerns on the job site.
  • Comply with all HMT quality and safety policies and programs.
  • Good communicator with Foreman and crew
  • Anything other required by the situation
  • Maintain operational paperwork for the position:
    • Air Monitor Bump Test Log
    • Confined space entry log
    • Fire extinguisher inspection log
    • Moreโ€ฆ
  • Assist Foreman with daily safety paperwork:
    • JSA
    • Safework Checklist
    • Take notes during tailgate meetings

Skill Requirements:
  • Follow instructions with regard to general construction tasks.
  • Work in an efficient and effective Manner.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be willing to travel to the East Coast.
  • Work in extreme weather situations, hot, coldโ€ฆ
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Climb ladders and stairs
  • Willing to sweep, lift materials, organize welding leads, cords, hosesโ€ฆ
  • Spot for mobile equipment as needed

Education/Training:
  • High School Graduate - Preferred
  • Must have a valid driverโ€™s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to read and write in English required
