Job description

About the Role
At Alluvial Concepts, our Epic Developers are the technical backbone of every implementation we deliver. While analysts and project managers shape the clinical and operational experience, developers ensure the engine runs - building and maintaining the integrations, reporting infrastructure, and custom solutions that make Epic perform at its full potential for our clients.
As an Epic Developer at Alluvial Concepts, you will work across system infrastructure, database management, interfaces, and custom development. You will be the person health systems rely on when the technical stakes are highest - during upgrades, complex integrations, and critical go-live moments. If you thrive on solving hard problems under pressure and take pride in systems that are fast, secure, and built to scale, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain Epic system integrations and interfaces, ensuring reliable data exchange between Epic and third-party systems.
  • Manage system infrastructure including servers, environments, and Epic-related databases - ensuring uptime, performance, and security.
  • Perform custom development work within Epic's technical frameworks to meet client-specific requirements not addressed by standard configuration.
  • Support and execute Epic upgrade processes, including environment preparation, testing, and post-upgrade validation.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues across integration layers, reporting environments, and database systems - often under time pressure during critical go-live windows.
  • Ensure system scalability and security compliance, working in partnership with client IT and security teams.
  • Build and maintain reports, dashboards, and data extracts using Epic Clarity and Caboodle to support operational and clinical decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Epic Applications Analysts and Project Managers to ensure technical solutions align with clinical workflow and project requirements.
  • Document all technical specifications, integration designs, and custom development work to ensure maintainability and knowledge transfer.

Key Skills & Attributes
  • Deep technical expertise in HL7 and FHIR standards - you understand how healthcare data moves between systems and how to make those connections reliable and compliant.
  • Strong SQL scripting ability - you are comfortable writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting queries against large clinical datasets.
  • Problem-solving under pressure - you can diagnose and resolve critical technical issues quickly and methodically, even during high-stakes go-live periods.
  • Systems thinking - you understand how infrastructure decisions ripple across the broader Epic environment and plan accordingly.
  • Security and compliance awareness - you design and build with HIPAA requirements and healthcare data governance in mind.
  • Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences - you can explain a complex integration issue to a clinical workflow analyst without losing them.
  • Meticulous documentation habits - your technical work leaves a clear trail that others can follow and build on.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, or a related technical field.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
  • At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience in Epic technical development or a comparable healthcare IT environment.
  • Active Epic certification in Bridges, Clarity, Caboodle, or another relevant technical module.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases in a healthcare context.
  • Familiarity with HL7 v2, HL7 FHIR, and/or other healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites as required by project phase.

What Sets You Apart
  • Experience leading technical workstreams on large-scale Epic implementations or upgrades.
  • Proficiency in Epic's Chronicles database and its proprietary data model.
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) in a healthcare IT context.
  • Experience with API development and modern FHIR-based interoperability frameworks.
  • Background working in or alongside clinical environments - you understand what's at stake when systems go down.
