Job Summary


The Director of Commodities is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing and executing enterprise-wide sourcing and supplier strategies supporting Facilities, Construction, and Hospitality Services across Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH). This role provides direction and oversight for complex, high-spend commodity portfolios, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, operational needs, and long-term value creation.


The Director serves as a trusted partner to internal stakeholders and senior leadership, demonstrating strong collaboration and influence across clinical, operational, and administrative functions. This role requires proven leadership capability, deep data and financial analytics expertise, and extensive experience leading complex contract negotiations, including multi-year agreements, performance-based structures, and risk mitigation strategies.


Key responsibilities include guiding strategic sourcing initiatives, leading supplier negotiations, driving standardization and cost optimization, and leveraging data insights to support informed decision-making. The Director is accountable for contract integrity, supplier performance, and continuous improvement, while fostering strong vendor relationships that support service excellence, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.


This position plays a critical role in advancing BSWH’s mission by ensuring reliable, high-quality, and cost-effective support services infrastructure across the organization.


Essential Functions of the Role
•    Significant experience in the construction industry is ideal but not necessary for this role but experience in Service Contracts is critical.
•    Directs commodities sourcing strategy for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH.
•    Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and priorities for commodities aligned to BSWH overall business goals.
•    Directs sourcing strategies and approaches for high volume commodity purchases by the organization.
•    Leads complex RFP’s for system wide initiatives that requires deep understanding of operations and has a strong ability to collaborate with project team members to ensure all requirements are met.
•    Leads negotiations within the framework of BSWH Legal Guardrails and understands key terms that need to be included within a service based agreement.
•    Monitors contract compliance and works with providers on resolution of non-compliance issues.
•    Develops and implements commodities policies, procedures, and processes for the assigned area. Manages the purchasing process for assigned commodities. Develops an implementation plan for the new process and supports Implementation Managers in ensuring execution.
•    Provides ongoing communication to supply chain senior leadership and stakeholders on commodities products, projects, activities, and status.
•    Selects and manages vendor management for commodities and partners with strategic sourcing to manage vendor performance and services provided.
•    Leads insourced versus outsourced sourcing decision making and collaborates with insourced owners to ensure appropriate “make vs. buy” selection.


Key Success Factors
•    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, healthcare administration, or relevant field.
•    5+ years of experience with service-based sourcing, procurement, supply chain, or related area.
•    1+ years of experience in a leadership role.
•    Knowledge of service commodities and operations management principles and practices.
•    Critical skills with expertise in purchasing, supplier collaboration, and negotiation.
•    Ability to manage supplier relationships, vendor programs, and internal customer expectations.
•    Exceptional relationship building, interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
