Consumer Finance Litigation Attorney
Boston, MA

Direct Counsel is seeking a Consumer Finance Litigation Attorney to join a well-established regional law firm with a nationally recognized litigation practice in Boston. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with consumer finance, creditors' rights, or commercial litigation experience to work on sophisticated financial services litigation matters while collaborating with experienced practitioners in a highly respected practice.

Please note: This is a non-partnership track attorney position.

About the Role

The firm's Complex Commercial Litigation team represents financial institutions and creditors in a broad range of consumer finance disputes and regulatory matters.

Attorneys in this role will represent:

  • Banks and financial institutions

  • Mortgage lenders and servicers

  • Automobile finance companies

  • Credit card issuers

  • Collection agencies

  • Other consumer finance industry participants

The practice includes defending clients in matters involving:

  • Truth in Lending Act (TILA)

  • Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA)

  • Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)

  • Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)

  • State consumer protection statutes

  • Creditors' rights disputes

  • Commercial foreclosure litigation

  • Common law business and contract claims

This position offers significant responsibility and the opportunity to handle sophisticated litigation matters from inception through resolution.

Responsibilities

Attorneys will be involved in all phases of litigation, including:

  • Drafting pleadings, motions, and legal memoranda

  • Conducting legal research and case analysis

  • Managing discovery and litigation strategy

  • Attending hearings, conferences, and court proceedings

  • Preparing dispositive motions and other substantive filings

  • Defending financial institutions and creditors in consumer finance litigation

  • Advising clients regarding litigation risk and regulatory compliance considerations

  • Collaborating with clients and litigation teams on complex matters

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial litigation experience.

  • Consumer finance litigation and/or creditors' rights experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience handling commercial foreclosure matters is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with federal and state consumer protection laws.

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

  • Experience drafting and arguing motions and other substantive pleadings.

  • Excellent oral advocacy and communication skills.

  • Strong client service orientation and professional judgment.

  • Ability to manage matters independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

  • Massachusetts Bar admission in good standing is required.

  • Connecticut Bar admission is a plus.
