Job description

Purpose:
The successful candidate will join our Center for Reading Science team supporting preschool and elementary schools' implementation of evidence-based reading instruction within an MTSS framework. This is a full-time (12-month), professional services position.
The School of Education at Mount St. Joseph University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Literacy Coach position. This role will support the scaling up efforts of Project Ready! (our open source preschool project) and support professional development and coaching projects in elementary schools.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the science of reading and MTSS as well as experience in early childhood and elementary literacy instruction, coaching educators, and delivering professional development. This position offers the opportunity to directly impact student outcomes while building school and educator capacity through instructional coaching, modeling best practices, creating tools and resources, and supporting sustainable literacy efforts in schools and community-based programs.
Mount St. Joseph University's Reading Science Program is an IDA Accredited Plus program with pathways to all levels of certification through the International Dyslexia Association.
Duties:
  • Partner with school leaders and teachers to implement high-quality literacy instruction aligned with the science of reading.
  • Support the scale-up efforts of Project Ready! in preschool settings. This may involve supporting a train-the-trainer model, marketing, seeking/writing grants, and marketing efforts.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to teachers through classroom observations, co-teaching, and one-on-one instructional support (preK - 6th grade).
  • Deliver professional learning sessions and assist with data-informed instructional planning.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Reading Science to ensure curriculum fidelity and long-term sustainability.
  • Create useful tools, curriculum materials, and resources to support implementation efforts.
  • Champion inclusive, evidence-based practices that address the needs of all learners.
  • Provide service to the graduate program, department, university, and professional community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Primary Contacts: Reading Science faculty and staff
  • A master's degree in reading or a related field is required.
  • Clear training in Reading Science & MTSS.
  • Teaching experience in PreK-5 reading instruction.
  • Proven ability to prepare educators in evidence-based reading practices.
  • Experience writing instructional materials/resources.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse students, families, and school communities.
