What are license plate readers?

License plate readers (LPRs) are automated systems that use cameras and computer software to capture and read vehicle license plate numbers. These devices are commonly used by law enforcement agencies to identify stolen vehicles, track criminal activity, or enforce parking regulations. LPRs can be mounted on police vehicles, at fixed locations like traffic lights, or on mobile trailers. The data collected by LPRs is often stored in databases and can be compared against lists of interest, such as vehicles associated with crimes or unpaid fines.

What are the negatives of license plate readers?

License Plate Readers (LPR) jobs involve operating and maintaining surveillance technology, which can raise privacy concerns and lead to ethical debates about data collection and misuse.
