School counselors work to maximize and support student success, while promoting access and equity to education for all students. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.\r\n

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

\r\n\r\n\r\n Facilitate small groups and short-term individual counseling using DBT-A and Restorative Practices.\r\n Teach classroom school counseling lessons as part of the CTECS Comprehensive School Counseling Framework.\r\n Conduct annual individual planning meetings with students and families in grades 9-12.\r\n Assist students with postsecondary planning.\r\n Collect and analyze data to document the results interventions and to make programmatic decisions.\r\n Collaborate with central office, administration, teachers, families, and other staff to support school and district improvement goals.\r\n Participate in meetings to review and provide multi-tiered systems of support to students.\r\n Serve as the case manager for all students with 504 plans on their caseload.\r\n Advocate for equitable access to programs and services, and compassionate and just treatment of all students.\r\n Participate in professional development activities.\r\n Other duties as needed.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\n\r\n Experience delivering the CT Comprehensive School Counseling Framework (CCSCF) or the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model.\r\n Experience with career counseling and postsecondary trade pathways\r\n Experience communicating ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.\r\n Experience working effectively and collaboratively with school leadership, staff, families and the community\r\n Experience utilizing data to address student and departmental needs\r\n Familiar with counseling technology such as Naviance, DESSA, CTSEDS, and PowerSchool\r\n Experience utilizing strong public relations, organizational and problem solving skills.\r\n Experience managing a caseload of students with 504 plans.\r\n Experience with school based DBT-A (dialectical behavioral therapy).\r\n Experience with restorative practices.\r\n Direct experience with student recruitment\r\n Experience designing and running small group interventions.\r\n\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.\r\n
