Position Description Summary/Purpose:

This is an entry-level professional position. It works under the general supervision of the Library Director, assisting in resource organization, technical troubleshooting, and with the library's outreach strategies. It performs a supporting role in assisting students, staff, and faculty in retrieving physical and electronic materials. Primary working hours are evenings and some weekends.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Receives oral or written directions from Library Director
  • Executes work according to established library procedures
  • Opens and closes library according to security procedures
  • Attends the circulation desk on weekday evenings and three Saturdays each month
  • Liaises with other Student Affairs staff in planning, attending, and assisting with the University's social events
  • Assists with basic library circulation functions
  • Assists students, staff, and faculty with basic troubleshooting, i.e. connecting to WiFi, helping with room bookings, using smartboards, unjamming printers, etc
  • Creates engaging displays that market library-provided materials
  • Assists librarians in maintaining physical course reserves
  • Pulls and shelves books as needed
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.

Other Functions:

  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as situation permits
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • Ability to work effectively with other staff and desire to learn new skills
