Job Description
Under supervision of the Senior Librarian for Technical Services, this position supports collection development by submitting orders for the purchase of library material, processing invoices, creating and editing bibliographic records, and providing support for the Technical Services section of the library.
Job Functions
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
  • Employ and model the Library's mission and vision, as well as the values, ethics, and principles of the library profession.
  • Support acquisitions operations, including ordering, receiving, and claiming library materials; processing invoices; resolving issues with vendors; and assisting in fiscal year-end processes.
  • Maintain awareness of City and library purchasing processes, material budgets, material vendors, and record retention policies.
  • Support collection development by maintaining accurate acquisitions data and ensuring responsible resource stewardship.
  • Monitor and prioritize workflows in response to internal and external customer needs and expectations.
  • Create and edit MARC records in the bibliographic database following current standards of Resource Description and Access (RDA), International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD), and local policy.
  • Perform subject classification of materials using the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme and Library of Congress subject headings and genre terms.
  • Assist Senior Technical Services Librarian with quality control of newly cataloged library materials.
  • Participate in community outreach activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and in support of the Library's and City's mission.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science or a related field
  • At least one year of related work experience
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the City.

  • Vacation leave accruals at the rate of 3.33 hours per pay period x 24 pay periods;

  • TMRS retirement plan that requires a mandatory employee contribution of 7% of gross earnings. The City matches this contribution at a rate of 2 to 1
