Job description

Summary Performs job duties in a way that promotes a positive image of the City organization and the department; demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and delivers exemplary customer service; processes returned materials and reshelves them. Essential Functions Provide excellent customer service; Empty book drops; Process, route, and reshelve returned books; Assist at circulation desk; Maintain shelves; Perform related duties as required. Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent or any combination of education and experience that provides the following: Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of: Library organization and procedures; Customer service best practices; Variety of books and library materials.

Ability to: Charge and discharge materials, assess and collect fines/fees, and perform similar tasks related to the circulation function; Promote library services and public relations; Use a computer, telephone, cash register, book carts, and sensitizing machine. Ability to alphabetize and shelve books in proper location; Use correct grammar and perform arithmetic calculations; Perform detailed routines at a high rate of accuracy Physical Requirements Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds; Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds; Push and pull object in order to shelve materials and push the book cart; Frequently climb step ladders or stairs; Frequently twist, bend, kneel and crouch in order to shelve books; Continuously reach above, at and below shoulder height.
