Job description

Job Title: Tape Librarian
Location: Houston, TX 77042
Duration: 12+ Months
Pay Rate: $25.00/hr on W-2
Overview:
The Tape Librarian is responsible for maintaining and managing magnetic tapes and NAS/USB disk inventory within the Houston Tape Library, including verification of client deliverables and routine library maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage tape library projects and serve as the primary contact for the xmittal program
  • Coordinate tape pools (create, expand, reduce, label)
  • Verify, register, and document all incoming and outgoing media
  • Address media catalog issues and manage error reporting
  • Coordinate daily operations with Computer Operators
  • Generate media and database reports as required
  • Perform database searches to locate media
Library Operations:
  • Handle, retrieve, label, QC, and file media
  • Prepare media for internal use and outgoing shipments
  • Load and eject media in silos
  • Perform routine maintenance and follow library procedures
  • Ensure compliance with QA, QHSE, and departmental standards
Requirements:
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED or College Degree
  • Experience: 3โ€“5 years in tape technician or computer operations
Skills:
  • Strong computer and database knowledge
  • Familiarity with tape library operations and MMS tape management
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Physical: Ability to lift 20โ€“25 lbs
