Primary Purpose:
Assist librarian in the administration of the campus library. Perform routine clerical duties under direct supervision.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
Ability to file books following district cataloging system
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work well with students
Experience:
One-year experience working with children preferred
One-year clerical experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Library Program Support
  1. Support instruction of reading and district technology and reading initiatives based on campus needs.
  2. Provide instruction and assistance in using library media center resources including digital devices, maker-space items, and audiovisual equipment.
  3. Collaborate with teachers and students to design and teach engaging learning experiences and assessments that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking.
  4. Shelve incoming books, materials, and equipment.
  5. Ready materials for classroom or reserve collection use as requested by teachers.
  6. Request and schedule use of materials from regional education service center or other source.
  7. Prepare bulletin boards and displays and prepare instructional materials.
  8. May read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud.
Accounting and Inventory
  1. Operate the media center automated circulation system.
  2. Collect and maintain records of student fines and prepare parent notification as needed.
  3. Receive and process books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoices.
  4. Repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment or process for repair at outside facilities (e.g., bindery).
  5. Perform routine maintenance on audiovisual equipment.
  6. Assist in the annual inventory and weeding of library media center materials.
Clerical Support
  1. Maintain physical and computerized files, including card catalog, vertical file materials, and publisher catalogs.
  2. Prepare bibliographies, forms, purchase orders, requisitions, and routine correspondence using personal computer.
  3. Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
Student Management
  1. Supervise students and assist teachers to maintain student behavior and maintain an orderly atmosphere.
  2. Perform assigned student monitoring duties.
Other
  1. Supervise library operation.
  2. Assist with the supervision of parent volunteers and student aides.
  3. Maintain confidentiality.
  4. Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of rules, regulations, and practices.
  5. Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor and/or Superintendent.
  6. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
