JOB TITLE:ย Library Paraprofessional

REPORTS TO:ย Campus Principal and District Library Coordinator and/or Librarian

DEPT./SCHOOL:ย Campus Library

Compensation: ย Para Pay Grade 3

DATE REVISED:ย July 2022

PRIMARY PURPOSE:ย 

To provide assistance in all areas of library operations in order to facilitate the highest possible functioning of the library including a vast amount of library technology.ย 

QUALIFICATIONS:ย 

Education/Certificates:ย 




  • High School Diplomaย 

Special Knowledge/Skills:ย 




  • Knowledge of basic computer and keyboarding skills.
  • The ability to manage and maintain library budgets.
  • The ability to maintain a library website.
  • Possess strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.ย 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:




  • Maintain circulation of library materials.
  • Shelve library materials.
  • Run and distribute reports/overdues for students and teachers.
  • Record statistics for library usage.
  • Assist students with computer usage.
  • Assist students/teachers with their materials search.
  • Complete inventory and inventory records.ย 
  • Library publicity and special activities.
  • Monitor student aides.
  • Contribute to the positive image of the library.
  • Operate a variety of computer software programs.
  • Periodical weeding of the collection.
  • Prepare books and periodicals for circulation.
  • Purchase materials for the library collection with approval from the district library coordinator
  • Teach library strategies to students.
  • Read widely in the area of children's and/or young adult literature.
  • Ensure that library program goals are aligned with school and district improvement plans.
  • Create and maintain a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning.
  • Collect data that is used to inform continuous program improvement.
  • Organize the collection for maximum and effective use.
  • Develop and maintain a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, the teaching styles and instructional strategies used in the school community that is in accordance with district policy.
  • Join with teachers and others to plan and implement meaningful experiences that will promote a love of reading for pleasure and information.
  • Create an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resources-based instruction, and collaboration with other teachers on campus.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff members.
  • Attend professional development to stay abreast of developments in library services and technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.ย
