Job description

Supervise and manage the school library.  Engage learners through the use of print and digital resources to access, create, and share content as well as collaborate with other learners as global citizens. Collaborate with teachers to design engaging learning experiences to integrate digital citizenship and information literacy skills into instruction.  Serve as teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that the library is involved in instructional programs of the school.  Set the tone for creating a campus community of readers and lifelong learners.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:Valid Texas librarian or learning resources specialist certificate or endorsement Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of current library and information science best practices

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Proficiency in engaging learners in a variety of instructional strategies

Experience:Two years of experience as a classroom teacher

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Partner:

Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students in the use of the library and its resources (print and online) for completion of information-related assignments.

Collaborate with teachers in the planning and design of lessons that are engaging learning experiences and assessments that incorporate multiple literacies and technology, and foster critical thinking.

Participate in the curriculum development process at both the building and district level to ensure that the curricula include the full range of literacy skills (information, media, visual, digital, and technological literacy) necessary to meet content standards and to develop lifelong learners.

Create an environment that stimulates interest in reading and encourages an appreciation of literature.

Integrate digital citizenship so that all stakeholders collaborate in an atmosphere of respect, integrity, sharing, trust, and service.

Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and education research applicable to the school library program.

Information Specialist:

In accordance with District policy, develop, organize, and maintain a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the teaching styles and instructional strategies used within the school community.

Serve as an information resource for users of library materials and provide professional learning opportunities for staff on the availability and use of campus and district learning resources.

Evaluate, promote, and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning, supplement school resources, connect the school with the global learning community, communicate with stakeholders, and provide 24/7 access to library services.

Collaborate, as appropriate, with the Digital Learning Coach, to explore, introduce, and lead students and staff to emerging trends and technologies in curriculum and instruction.

Understand copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property, and assist users with their understanding and observance of the same.

Program Administrator:

Arrange for flexible scheduling of the library to provide student and staff accessibility to resources at point of need.

Develop collaborative partnerships with the campus and community to create innovative opportunities for all stakeholders.

Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library program and make changes based on the findings.

Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources.

Support specific campus library program goals.

Using local selection policy and guidelines, secure, inventory, and maintain a balanced and diverse collection, with input from stakeholders, in a variety of formats which supports and enriches the curriculum.

Uphold and comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, school board policies, administrative regulations, and instructions of administrative supervisors.

Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.

Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.

Support and implement the mission, vision, goals and beliefs of Frisco ISD.
