Job description

Part Time - Library Technical Assistant
The Blinn College District is searching for a Part Time - Library Technical Assistant at our Bryan Campus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below:
Job Summary
To support effective library services through a broad range of clerical and technical tasts.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Manage day-to-day circulation and reserve desk operations using integrated library software; check materials in and out; place materials on reserve; consult with faculty on reserve
  • Coordinate loans of materials and document delivery among campuses using OCLC and other automated systems
  • Assist students and other library patrons in person and via telephone
  • Answer basic reference questions or refer them to librarians; instruct patrons in the use of library resources and equipment; assist students in using computers and print system.
  • Help maintain and foster a study-friendly atmosphere in the library
  • Collect fines, assess fees for lost materials
  • Create and maintain patron records and accounts. Protect privacy of patron records as per state and federal law
  • Check-in periodicals, maintain subscriptions, place claims, and work as a liaison with serials vendors
  • Generate notices and reports as needed from integrated library software.
  • Record, compile, and maintain statistics on library usage and collection
  • Participate in inventory and review of the library collection
  • Assist in training and supervising student workers as applicable
  • Operate and maintain library equipment
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
  • High school graduate or GED

Minimum Competencies
  • Ability to listen carefully, remain calm, and maintain professionalism in challenging situations when working with the public
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate well with coworkers.
  • Ability to perform tasks such as computer data entry with accuracy
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to learn and use the library software, online catalog, and databases
  • Ability to use and demonstrate to others how to use computers, printers, copiers, and other office equipment
  • Ability to create and modify documents and spreadsheets using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, lift books and push book carts

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of college education
  • Two years of library experience

Preferred Competencies
