Job description

Have an impact on the services at the core of the Coveo Platform

Want to shape the foundations that development teams rely on every day? As a Senior II Developer on R&D's Backend Foundation team, you'll work at the core of the Coveo Platform, building the foundational tools, standards, and pathways that make software delivery simpler, more consistent, and scalable.

You'll tackle challenges spanning backend development and cloud infrastructure in Amazon Web Services (AWS), while acting as a trusted technical partner to teams across R&D. Your expertise will help evolve how we build, deliver, and operate services, including our golden paths and service discovery capabilities.

As our Senior II Backend Developer, you will:
  • Own and evolve reference libraries, tools, and development patterns used by microservices across R&D, driving sustainable improvements to our development practices.
  • Develop and operate one of Coveo's most critical services: the internet-facing entry point for our application programming interfaces (APIs).
  • Act as a trusted technical partner to development teams, providing guidance on complex backend and platform challenges and helping establish strong engineering practices.
  • Collaborate across development and cloud infrastructure teams, translating needs and feedback into improvements to the Coveo Platform and the developer experience.
  • Proactively assess the health, performance, and risks of our systems, identifying and driving improvements that strengthen their reliability and scalability.
  • Take ownership throughout the development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation to deployment and operation in production.
  • Expanding our golden paths and platform capabilities to support modern, increasingly AI-assisted ways of building, delivering, and operating software.
Here is what will qualify you for the role:
  • At least 8 years of experience building and operating backend in cloud environments (Java / Spring Boot preferred, AWS an asset).
  • Demonstrated experience designing reusable software, libraries, or tooling for large-scale systems with complex infrastructure or a significant user base.
  • Ability to independently navigate complex technical challenges, assess trade-offs and risks, and drive solutions with long-term impact.
  • A collaborative and resourceful approach, with the ability to communicate complex technical ideas, mentor others, and influence engineering practices across teams.
What will make you stand out:
  • Experience with infrastructure and orchestration technologies such as Terraform and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration systems such as GitHub Actions or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source libraries.
  • Experience with platform engineering, service meshes like Istio, developer tooling, or improving the developer experience at scale.
