Job Title: Building Custodian

Reports To: Head Facilities Custodian, Building Administrator, Asst. Supt. and/or Supt.

SUMMARY

Building Custodian personnel keep school offices, classrooms, locker rooms, restrooms and buildings, in clean and orderly condition so as to allow for a healthy, secure environment for the students and staff by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPSPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Sweep, mop, dust, scrub, and vacuum classrooms, office spaces, library, and restrooms.

Clean windows as directed or needed.

Empty trash and garbage containers to a central location inside of the building.

Assist with lunchroom clean-up as needed.

Notify maintenance personnel concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.

Perform laundry functions as directed or needed.

Assist other building and facilities custodians as requested.

Perform any other duties as assigned by a Head Facilities Custodian personnel or a building administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
