Description
Clerk (Library)
Performs a variety of routine and manual clerical work necessary to circulate library material, provides basic reference services, assists public computer users, and assists with the creation and delivery of library programs
The employee will have the responsibility of:
  • Shelve library materials and shelf-read to ensure materials are in proper order
  • Transfer mail and daily cash receipts between the libraries and the appropriate City departments
  • Assist at special events, as assigned
  • Circulation duties:
  • Registering and updating patron accounts
  • Checking library materials in and out
  • Receiving and accounting for various fee payment
  • Preparing various simple reports
  • Maintaining patron application files
  • Repairing minor damages to library materials
  • Programming duties:
  • Setting up and assisting with story times, crafting programs and other programs
  • Planning story times, craft programs, and STEM activities
  • Keeps the Children's areas neat and orderly
  • Preparing craft projects in advance; instructing and assisting children and their caregivers in the completion of projects, when assigned to Children's programs
  • Setting up and supervising movie and game programs
  • Assisting Program Librarian or Children Liberian at outreach events
  • Reference duties:
  • Preparing reference desk for opening and/or closing
  • Assisting patrons at public computer terminals by helping them log on and giving them basic instruction in the usage of computers and internet search engines
  • Assisting patrons in locating print and electronic sources that meet their informational needs
  • Logging in periodicals and preparing them for use
