DESCRIPTION

Assists the Library Manager with overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of library programs, services, and operations. Requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a commitment to providing innovative library services that meet the diverse needs of the community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master's degree in library science, information studies, or a related field from an ALA-accredited program is required, or the ability to obtain this degree within two years of the date of hire.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible library experience required.
  • Experience in a public library setting preferred.
  • Supervisory or administrative experience preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of library principles, practices, and trends, including collection development, reference services, programming, technology integration, and community engagement.
  • Skills in excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Skills with computers, including experience working with various ILS and library technologies, Microsoft Office, online databases and other internet sites related to facilitating assignments and duties.
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs, stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time, kneel, crouch, push and pull a book cart with up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with city employees and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment required.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Collaborate with the Library Manager in the development and execution of strategic plans, goals, and objectives for the library department.
  • Assist in the development and management of the library budget.
  • Assigns, trains, and supervises other library staff.
  • Oversees all genealogy and outreach services.
  • Co-administer, with the Library Manager, the ILS and all library technologies.
  • Oversee the Facebook page and assist the manager with all marketing and public relations.
  • Assists the Library Manager in evaluating library services.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in library science.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, training, and professional development of library staff.
  • Coordinates and participates in activities with outside agencies, boards, professional organizations and committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
