Description

Under the direction of the Facility Services Manager, the Courier picks up, delivers, and routes all types of library materials, supplies, and correspondence to and from designated branches of LS&S and other locations, as assigned. Additionally, the Courier assists in the regular maintenance of company vehicles and provides assistance in the set-up and take-down of events at sites within the LS&S network. The Courier will have a professional appearance, a friendly manner, and an ability to communicate clearly with staff at all levels. The Courier must be dependable and must complete their route in a timely manner.


An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily:

  • Drive a company owned vehicle to transport books and other library materials, office supplies, interoffice correspondence, and other related items to and from sites within the LS&S network.
  • Maintain accurate delivery/pickup logs, route sheets, and other required documentation.
  • Assist in the sorting and routing of books and other library materials, office supplies, and other related items.
  • Load and unload company vehicles; operate carts, dollies, hand trucks, or other equipment safely when moving materials.
  • Report promptly any malfunctions with the company vehicle; scheduling and transporting vehicles for regular maintenance
  • Perform basic pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including checking fuel level, tires, lights, fluids, and cleanliness.
  • Log and perform basic maintenance on company vehicles; promptly reporting vehicle issues and need for repairs to the Facility Services Manager
  • Assist in the set-up and take-down of programs and events at sites within the LS&S network
  • Maintain a professional appearance and courteous conduct while interacting with staff, vendors, and members of the public.
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Requirements

  •  H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Excellent Communication skills- both verbal and written
  • Previous on-the-job driving/courier experience a plus
  • Detail-oriented
  • Good time-management skills
  • Prior customer service experience or experience working with the public.
  • Previous library experience a plus
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and nights


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; 
  • Lift/push up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
